| This is awful, you need to get ahold of every political official in your town. You really do. Please don't turn your back on these poor dogs, like their owners did. They need to be severely dealt with...don't let your little up anywhere near these dogs, do NOT take any chances.

| Right now you are going to have to protect yourself & your family & your dog, first & foremost. Take a defensive weapon of some sort out with you if you or your children really fear you or your dog might be attacked. Pitbulls are often relentless & can fight locked on up to 45 minutes at one time, so their staying power & determination to sustain an attack is unrivaled in the animal kingdom. That is what you could be facing if those dogs have any genetic lineage of vicious fighting dogs so you have to be prepared to save your lives. Some people use tennis racquets, canes, actual knives, dog gates, wear rubber trash cans, etc., when they live around a pitbull type dog and must walk their dogs. And some use umbrellas. You've been given some excellent advice in the other posts about how to try to help yourself & your family avoid a true catastrophe. I would also suggest video(be sure to record sound also) evidence of neglect, illness, aggression, the pits off leash out in the neighborhood, etc., and send a copy of the DVD along with your formal complaints, letters, etc. A copy of any complaint and the DVD to any TV & radio station manager/individual crusading reporters & newspaper editors/reporters in your area might not hurt, also. I would finish my complaint cover letter with the notation on the bottom of all the people(be sure to include their full titles) you are copying so that the agency/bureaucrat who opens it will see that you are putting several important important movers & shakers on notice as well. A copy to your State Senators/Reps as well as U. S. Senators/Reps wouldn't hurt. I would let the near world know of my plight - and see if your raised alarm, with video proof, won't get you some real notice - and those poor dogs helped out of their misery. Below is the post I usually use on a thread where someone faces aggressive dogs when walking. It could help you: I walk with a huge black umbrella that self-opens when I push a button. It is a big thing and impressive as it opens! It give me a large appearance to the approaching dog, having that big, wide structure spread all out before me. The thing I found most helpful to me about the open umbrella is the distance it will keep a troublesome dog away from our immediate vicinity. I have yet to have one ever get even remotely close to me and my Yorkie with the trusty brolly fully employed. They either go the other way immediately(99% of the time), stand their ground if the owner is making them or give you a very very wide berth. They don't get close enough to or try to keep an aggressive attitude when they hear the umbrella whoosh open and see that imposing shape blossom open before their eyes. It is very disconcerting to any dog. It is a good diffuser of tense situations but should it not be, a sturdy or actual defensive umbrellas can serve as a real weapon should you actually run into a dog who is bent on attacking. When my little 3 lb. Yorkie, Jilly, was attacked by a 65 lb. Dalmatian on a neighborhood walk, my simple wooden walking stick(pre-umbrella) was how I saved her life and got her free of the big dog's jaws. It was after that attack that I decided to use a button-operated umbrella for future walks as a deterrent - even if I have no dog with me. But the role an open umbrella best serves is just a dissolver of bad attitudes. Most approaching dogs aren't really bad, they just are inquisitive, excited and out of control and this tool helps them to settle down rather quickly and become serious about how they can best stay well clear of you, your dog and your umbrella. And it gives you a wonderful sense of security, which a dog can read from quite far off. Train your dog to sit/stay when you open the umbrella so that in an emergency situation, your dog will not be running around at your feet or shying away from the umbrella opening, thus adding to the stress of the moment. .

| This has been some really great advice. I appreciate all of it. I have gotten to know the lady who runs a dog rescue in the area. She has taken several dogs from their home. I do fear for my children also. The dogs are pitiful though. They have had other types of dogs too. I would take a picture of these creatures with nothing but skin hanging on bones and send it to the rescue center. She knows exactly where to go when I text her. The other really sad part is that I know when they have a mean tempered dog, they cannot place it in a forever home. I know they are euthanized if they seem to not be suitable to place with people. There really should be some consequences and I am going to check with representatives for my area. THANKS GUYS.
