Senior Yorkie Talker | Hi, I’m a new Yorkie Mommy! Love this site! Hi everyone, I’m so happy that I found this site yesterday. My husband & I decided that since he is away so much(Military) & we’re still waiting to have kids we would get a puppy to be my baby! We did a lot of research when looking for the right breed. Growing up my parents had 4 purebred German Shepherds & so I’m really partial to big breeds(mainly Shepherds) but we live in military quarters & I know how much they chew, & shed! We have to pay for any damages & I have to be able to handle him when my husband is away. So I looked up small breeds, pros & cons with each breed, health problems…etc! We narrowed our search down to Yorkies, & Maltese! So we said lets look & see what we find in our area & we didn’t want to buy from anyone I wanted a couple who took pride in their pets, who loved them & not just used them for profit! So we found this old couple who LOVES yorkies! They drove 2 hours to meet us & brought Mama & Daddy with the pups! We were shocked cause we were willing to drive to them but she said no that if we decided to get one she wanted them to fill more comfortable with the parents & them the whole trip instead of being stressed out! She put a pup in my husbands arms, & Jaxson in mine & when he looked up at me it was done he was coming home with me! He has spunk but is still a baby & sleeps alot! Made sure to get all the AKC info/papers, the breeders info, she gave me the parents(puppies parents) info & pictures! We went & got puppy food, toys, crate, a baby gate, doggie bowls, & training treats! He’s been doing so good so far & we couldn’t be happier! Would love to hear any tips on new puppies & dos & don’ts! Thank you for reading & sorry I made this intro a bit longer then intended! God Bless! Kristen |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Welcome to Yorkietalk! I found Yorkietalk before I found my Yorkie, and 5 plus years later, I'm still learning ways to take care of him better.

| I am also a new Yorkie mommy and am totally in love with my little Kipper. He was just 8 weeks old when I got him and weighed 1# 13 oz. He has never had a single accident on the floor, as we use the pee pads and he loves going on them. He is now 12 weeks old (2# 9oz) and goes quietly into his crate where he sleeps beside my bed at night. At 4am he wakes me up to go potty and then he gets to sleep with me for the rest of the morning (I usually get up at 4-5am, so sometimes it works out that we both get up then). If I get to sleep in, he simply sleeps with me until I am ready to get up! He hates his Eukanuba/Iams puppy food, preferring to sneak our elderly schnauzer's "old man dog food" instead. It has been a challenge to keep them out of the other's bowl! I have tried putting broth on his food and it doesn't seem to help. He had obviously been introduced to people food when he was a puppy, as when we first got him and stopped by a drive thru for a quick lunch (we traveled 2 1/2 hours away to get him), he snatched up what we were trying to eat before we could stop him! Because of the problems I have read about Yorkies and their teeth, I have begun brushing his teeth every night and making sure he at least eats some of his crunchy puppy food, rather than always having it softened. He loves to chase the food across the floor, but I do not want to be stuck with having to throw the food all over the kitchen for his seek and find game to get him to eat! His favorite toy is a little stuffed duck with a squeaker in it. He will chase that little duck when I throw it and carry it back to his little bed and chew on it. He also chases small balls and other tiny stuffed toys made for dogs, but he especially loves the little football that is made for a bigger dog. I was surprised when he learned how to carry that one back to his bed! I am so happy for your new puppy and know that you will have as much fun as I have been having with mine! Now if we can just get them grown up without stepping on them or squishing them in bed, I will be REALLY HAPPY! (That is my biggest fear). Susan |
