After giving birth What if after giving birth 3 1/2 days ago the mama goes back to the first spot when she started nesting she was digging a tunnel in the yard... she went back to it this morning and started digging away? Does this mean she will have another puppy? She never dug before.

I THINK I remember she took the momma out to potty and then noticed her looking around and then started digging....I am hoping this is what I am remembering and not something I fabricated in my mind when I read the original post!

Hi LOL heck no, but when she started the nesting thing that is what she did, she went to the yard and was digging like crazy a good size hole I let her. then she ran into the house she was just running all over the place with her baby toy in her mouth. I took that her digging as a sign of nesting I read somewhere on here. She never dug in the dirt before. She had her babies inside a nice cozy bedroom in a large box with blankets and sheets pillows, none of which she wanted. she pulled everything out until she finished I kept putting it back in.

When their calcium levels are not as high as they should be they frequently will start this nesting behavior. I would be sure to up her calcium levels and watch closely for eclampsia. The other thing is if she does not feel that her current whelping area is safe enough, she will look for something better suited to what she believes is safe. Is she in a quiet area of the house with little disturbance and no other dogs or strange people to bother her?
