Now about metal clasps... there is normally some kind of flaw in metal either a bubble or a hairline crack... just saying it can happen with the best leashes also... depends on if they have hit the floor or sidewalk, how many times a dog has forceably pulled against it, and other stresses like temperature, etc. Best thing to do would be to replace the leash or hardware depending on how often it is used and abused, bc they're only going to handle so much stress. Might be good to go up a size in leashes, so the clasp is the next size bigger... it may be able to handle the stress better than the size you were using.

Or put two small leashes on her... that way if one breaks you'll have a back up.

thanks kjc i will deff be using 2 leaches from now on, after she gets a few obedience classes that is. for now we have been playing fetch inside, that shook me up pretty bad.

OMG...I was just terrified when I started reading this but had to keep going and then I was so relieved I got tears. Bless that girl who saved your baby!

I'm sure you little girl was terrified. I doubt that any training would have helped at that point unless she had been trained to endure really stressful and loud situations like a police or military dog is. I have noticed that some of the leashes have a very light weight type of clasp on them. Some of the ones that are more fashionable tend to be the ones that they spend less on the clasp. I guess we all need to take another look at our leashes and D rings.

Jackson had a collar break on him from the Dollar Store - never again! I only use a collar for a quick night-time potty break outside on the retractable and he doesn't pull at all and it just snapped off. He's not usually a runner but it's still scary, in the dark, knowing their not attached!

I just purchased a thin leather leash from OnLead and have heard nothing but good things. It seems very strong and sturdy, yet thin and light, and the company provided top notch customer service (and price was great! $12 per leash).

How scary! I am sooo glad she's okay!
