Blue buffalo freedom grain free for puppy

Today we got Blue buffalo freedom grain free for puppy for Happie. He was on Royal Canin for Yorkie puppy till now. But he used to scratch his skin quite some times. I felt this might be due to the corn in Royal Canin.

I fed him few kibbles and he seemed to like it. He did the same thing when he ate RC first, but then he became bit picky. We now hand feed him RC (has its own advantages and disadvantages ), if we leave him alone with food, he barely eats unless he is very much hungry !!

Does anyone use Blue buffalo grain free for puppy? I remember there was a pet food recall few months back for Blue buffalo and I checked the recalled products and the one which we got is not under recalled list.

Any suggestions?

Hi there! I'm having the same issue with my little guy, he is 5 months old and he's been on Royal Canin sinnce I got him at 2 and half months. He itches himself all over the carpet after eating, so I want to try the freedom by Blue Buffalo..Did you switch Happie to blue buffalo? And if you did how is Happie doing on it?

There has been a lot o bad stuff coming out about blue buffalo you might want to google it.

I'd pass on the Blue Buffalo too.

I'd stick with Royal Canin maybe the RX formula or how about a Limited Ingredient like Natural Balance?

When Callie started having issues and I switch to a limited ingredient diet until we could get into the vet we tried the Natural Balance limited ingredient small breed duck and she loved it and it cleared up most of the issues. She was then diagnosed with IBD which is related to food allergy's and she went on the prescription royal Canin small breed hypoallergenic and she loves that too and she is normally very picky.

I have a 2 year old yorkie rescue that had been fed Pedigree for most of his life prior to coming to us a few months ago. I have been on a quest to get him on a better quality food and it has been a struggle because he vomited everything we tried. Finally our vet suggested we try a "step up" food. Something better than Pedigree but not necessarily a high quality food, get him acclimated to that, and then try a higher quality food. It has been a hassle because we also have a toy poodle that is allergic to chicken/poultry and corn, and we need to leave kibble out at all times for her because she's very tiny and a nibbler. We switched to Blue Basics (limited ingredient) Lamb and Potato for small breeds. So far, so good. He has been eating it for over two weeks and no vomiting. Our poodle has an iron stomach to go along with her allergies, so she is doing okay on it too. It is not a high quality food, and Dog Food Advisor only gives it three stars. It is also expensive for what you're getting, and there are other limited ingredient foods out there that are higher quality for the price. But it must taste good because our two are chowing it down. I'm going to go with it for another month or so, then try to switch to Natural Balance.

Ok, I guess BB is a no no then..what about Holistic Select? Do any of you have experience with this food?

I have been feeding Avery Blue Buffalo grain free kibble for small breeds since we got him over two years ago. He does well on it. His stools are firm and unlike some comments I've read from others, he does not have a gas problem with it. He hardly every vomits (well like a couple times after he has eaten a bug or something! LOL) His vet says he is very healthy too My daughter has fed her large breed dog a different Blue Buffalo formula for over seven years.


It seems no matter what food you might use there are people who have had problems with it and vice versa. Just thought I would mention my experience with Blue Buffalo and it has been very good.

That's not even what I was talking about there have been many reports about there ingredients coming from China and grains mixed in with the grain free. As well as they care more about promoting then the actual food and the dogs eating it. You always need to look at the quality control of a company and stuff. There will always be dogs that do well on one food but not another and that's not my issue at all. There was also a member who had a bag of their food and it made there dog really sick so they called the company and the company said that there were probably to many life source bits in it. If they know that's a problem and haven't fixed it that's seriously scary to me and shows no concern for our pets.

I'm sorry, I wasn't even responding to your comment. I was just letting the OP know of my personal experience with the product she inquired about and I'm pretty sure I specifically said that.


If you'll notice I don't post much on here because it seems everytime I do someone takes it as a personal challenge and thing get testy. The way you just commented makes it sounds as if because I don't think like you, I have no concern for my pet! Really?!

I am sorry you took it that way it was very very much not ment that way at all. I was just saying that my issues with it is not because some dogs do good on it and some don't. Again I am very sorry you took it that way.

My new pup loves it and his stools are firm and don't even smell! I will research the pros and cons but there are pros and cons with everything. Just like with OUR food, anything that is processed in any way is bad for you somehow, yet, we eat it and thrive.
Barring any problems arising I will keep him on this unless I am convinced it's bad for him.

We do not thrive on processed foods we have more weight issues and illnesses then we have ever had.
