I know that medical procedures & tests, vary from New England to Florida. Does anyone know of a site that lists standard charges & fees for these necessary vaccinations, procedures & tests? I appreciate all the previous postings and thank you in advance for any assistance. |

I can say in the first year of ownership I spent over $3500 (including the cost of buying my boys) on everything needed for them for just 1 year. And I got lucky with them being healthy with no medical conditions (well my little guy had a small heart murmur that needed to be checked by the vet every 3 months until it closed when he was 1 year old).... just basic ownership costs were crazy. $1400 to buy them. 2 yorkies $400 check up and initial vacs (3 months old) $350 for 1 neuter (male) $400 when they both got bloody diarrhea $360 for grooming 3x a year (for 2 males) $400 second round of checkups and vacs (1 year old) At least $400 in harnesses (after they each chewed through about 6 of them during the chewing stages), beds (again, after they ate their first 3 beds), food, bowls, toys, sweaters, life jackets, leashes (again a few lost to little teeth), heartguard, frontline, crate, xpen, potty pads, soft sided travel crate, registration with town. Since then, $1500 roughly - Multiple vet visits over the years for various reasons (infection from grooming razor burn, vomiting for 24 hours straight, bump on tail, another bout of bloody diarrhea, lymes disease, and of course wellness visits. $150 for the other neuter $800 for the first dental $400 a year for grooming $200 a year for frontline & heartguard $200 a year for food When I visit my mom I usually go for 2-3 weeks so I bring them, it's at least $300 to fly them round trip. Ive done it 3x, so another $900 there. When I go away and need to get someone to watch them, its about $150 for a week. Ive done this at least once a year since owning them so that is another $1050. In the future they are going to need at least another dental each if not 2 more each. That is another $1600 Any future meds as they get older.... Over the course of their lifetime on 2 HEALTHY (no congenital or hereditary health problems) - These dogs are probably going to cost a good $10,000-$15,000. Just for BASIC care and needs. Its really something to think about when getting a dog. |
