| how to get your yorkies to ride in the car and like baths? I have a maltese-yorkie mix girl and two boy yorkies and they don't tend to like trips and get anxious from car rides. the maltese-yorkie girl throws up in the car and one of the boys shakes like hes about to have a seizure. Also they try to climb out of the sink everytime I wash them because they get nasty fur and smell bad if i don't wash them every 2 weeks and take them to the groomer every month. How do I deal with these problems? Last edited by blj; 05-25-2012 at 10:29 AM. |

| I can tell you that if you start taking your dogs on fun trips on a regular basis they will start to enjoy the car. If you only take them to the vet or to the groomers then they will associate the car with something unpleasant. Take fun trips a couple of times a week and see if that starts to get them a bit more excited about travel. If they are used to being home all the time it may be difficult to change their mind set about going places. How do you bathe them and with what? Is there anyway you can make it easier on them? Gracie hated baths at first but she has accepted the fact that she is getting a weekly bath. I do it in the kitchen sink. I put a special mat in the sink so her feet are stable and she feels secure. I also purchased a sprayer from PetCo: Rinse Ace 3-Way Pet Faucet Sprayer at PETCO It has cut the amount of time I spend with her in the sink in half and I am better able to be sure I get all the soap and conditioner out of her fur. It has 3 spray speeds. Using a conditioner and also a spray conditioner makes comb out time easier and quicker also. As soon as she is combed out I blow her dry with the hair dryer. The easier you can make it for them the better they will accept it. |

| Goodness, my Chloe loves to go to the vet! I don't think she knows that she isn't supposed to like it! I do agree that you could take them on a short drive to the pet store or park so it is an enjoyable trip. Also, my baby has gotten more used to the baths the more I have given them to her. Same with the hair dryer and grooming process. Good luck! |

| Hello and Welcome to YorkieTalk! If you buy car seats like a Look Out Car seat, it helps with the transportation issue, or at least it really helped Piccolo and my friend's dogs. Baths... not sure if my girls will ever like them, but my Yorkie gets one once a week, no matter what. I wash them in the bathtub, by-the-way.

| Hi and welcome to YT. We have a Snoozer carseat and that seemed to help with car rides. They can look out the window and see what's around them. My poor Maggie threw up the first year we had her no matter how long the ride. She even threw up on the boat. Once she figured out that if she looked outside, she didn't get sick, she started to absolutely love car rides. She jumps into the car whenever she's near an open car door. lol As for baths, they still don't like them but tolerate them. I have a baby bathtub that I use in the bigger bath tub. I poor the water over them with a cup and it seems to belp. Good luck.

| car rides and treats Hi I have owned Yorkies for the past 20 years To be honest treats vary for all three of my girls The one thing that they love is high quality sandwitch meat It is the one thing they can all eat and it doesnt upset their tiny tummies The car riding is bit more complicated My 4 month old loves to ride, my middle girl gets car sick so she doesnt like it as much, but if i keep her cool and own do a tun of fast curves she is great, the oldest does well but she gets nervous so we just pamper her The more you take them out the better they will do the like it if it is not just to the vet We take them to the dog park, home depto, blookbuster, petco and other places that are pet friendly they also get to socialize |
