Collars--How often should I be washing them?

If you want I can add some faux sherpa lining to the bottom of the armholes of Kaji's BBs while he's here. And when they get dirty, take them off and put on the new ones. I did that with Uni's purple one, but *gasp* what a surprise, never changed it out.

I think also if you put leather conditioner on it, it should help seal the porousness and keep out the yucky germies. then you can just wipe it clean.

Unclean!!! Unclean!!!!!! I had those white leather wrap things on there for a while. That was more because the BB was a little stiff. It's super soft now, so it's no longer an issue.

When they get washed I wash there collars & harnesses. They have so many I just transfer their IDs onto a different one.

From what I've learned from my vet is that Yorkies wind passages is very small and never, never use a collar, instead always use a harness.

It's most likely restricting her wind pip not itchy.

I think you're misunderstanding The collars are used for tags only, not walking

You shouldn't use them for walking on a leash, but they can wear them for tags and ID purposes.

Anyway, I wash Roxie's collar whenever I give her a bath. I take it off to bathe her, and then I wash it in the sink with the Palmolive (I think it's a nylon collar). I let it dry until the next day, and then she cannot wait to put it back on! She will hover around the counter where it's drying until I finally take it down and put it back on her!

Nope, it's not restricting her windpipe. There's room for three fingers between the collar and her neck. I've been having issues with Uni and her scratching. Most likely allergies or skin issues.

Uni loves it when I put her collar back on after a bath! It's her signal that bath time is done! and now fun zoomie time! I couldn't stand not having her collar on all night. I need to hear that ringing sound if she's scratching herself again.

Poor Uni. What is it about you two girls? Uni scratches and breaks her hair, and Missy scratches so much she ends up biting too. She bites herself completely raw.

I only use harnesses but they get washed on sundays when the toys go through the washer.

I only use distilled white vinegar to clean dog items.

Uni would scratch and bite herself raw if I didn't stop her. That's why she's in clothes 24/7. I also put coconut oil on her frequently itched areas to help moisturize. It seems to help a little.

I wash their collers every week. I put a clean collar on Buster and Maggie every week when they get a bath. They have several collars (ha!) and since they play outside so much, they need a clean collar at least every week.

CG, how do you use vinegar to clean them? Just soak them and rinse out?

I toss em in the washign machine and use the vinegar as the detergent.

Between washed I just put vinegar on a scrubby and rub em down with it-takes about 5 minutes for them to dry and loose the scent but wa-la they are clean!

Edit-like on a dish washing sponge-you just put vinegar on the scrubber and uh scrubbie it like you would spot clean your cloths, only I do on the leather and cotton harnesses-no stains keeps em sparkly.


Okay I am a bit of a freak, because I also use the germ guardian UV-C wand on them too


On another note-am I the only one who is seeking out the pet store display pleather dog manikins?

I want one to put in the dog armoire to display some of their outfits or bling harnesses-but to get one in each of my dog's sizes is going to be about $300 so I have to wait to do it.

Seriously I can't be the only Yorkie Talker doing that!
