| Hello, new here! Hello everyone, I am new here and thought I would introduce myself. My name is Donna, I have always thought that the Yorkie was such a beautiful little dog and have wanted one for so many years. Now I am getting down to the nitty gritty and before making the adoption I thought it best to join this group and find all the info possible to make the right choice and know all I can to be prepared to have my heart swept away by a little doll face. There is so much I want to find out, such as do I need to pay $2,000 or if I pay $500.00 am I running a risk of adopting from the wrong person, what to look for in my choice and so on. I look forward to trying to read all the info and learning about your lives with your Yorkies! Thanks, Donna in Pa |

| Hello and welcome. Just be sure to check out the breeder, go to their home and see how they are kept and see the parents. Just know that a yorkie will steal your heart and your life will never be the same.

| Hi, and welcome! There is lots of good information here that you may find useful in finding your new fur baby. Also, there are some really good books with information to help you evaluate and choose a healthy Yorkie, and, of course, as you likely already know, cost does not always indicate quality unfortunately. Good luck in your search.

| Hi there and welcome! I was also on the hunt for a good breeder (not happy at all with Ziggy's breeder) anyway, what i did was take my time, it took me months of searching, asking lots of questions, getting personal/second opinions (i probably started annoying peiple, lol) but i have found a great breeder, the first thing she said to me was "please come over and meet my dogs and puppies and we can talk more face to face" i loved that.. Follow your gut, it it feels wrong, walk away. Good luck on your search

| I think that it really depends on what you want but being a good breeder is expensive and it also depends on what you are looking for. Remember that you pick your breeder as much as you pick your dog so make sure you are comfortable with them and the environment your puppy comes from. |

| It's really hard... I think most members here have only dim memories of their acquisitions... Fortunately (or unfortunately) my first baby was an adoption... I wasn't looking for a dog at all, but a woman ran into my office with this adorable dog saying she and her husband had rescued him off the busy highway in front of my office. Long story short -- he became the office mascot and taught me what I know about Yorkies. I went on to adopt another Yorkie, but that's another story! |

Please don't look at price alone... Please take a few minutes to investigate breeders on the internet. Even that is tricky... A slick website can hide a cruel breeder... Read thru the sites -- current and old ones... and see if you feel comfortable with a breeder. Some of these folks don't breed for puppies at all -- the only dogs they have for sale are those that just missed show requirements... in other words, you can get a beautiful dog, from championship lines -- it just cannot be bred. In fact, it should be spay neutered before you get it. A true show breeder won't leave it up to chance that their slightly imperfect offspring could end up in a breeder program. Go slowly... and you will find the perfect baby for you! Don't ever...ever...ever... buy from a pet shop or flea market... PLEASE! | |
