| Vaccine Question + some pics I took today :D When I took the "kids" in for their last shots,I noticed that there was a poster about a new vaccine for leishmaniasis disease. It´s 3 vaccines (one every 2 weeks) and it´s pretty new here..infact,it came out in January and Im thinking about it for Milo & Bella. The reason,is where we live, there is ALOT of mosquitoes (tics etc) and its suppose to prevent death (not the illness all together) if they actually catch it. Being as its so new though,I pretty nervous about it..has anyones babies had it done? Did they have a reaction to it? Oh,and whilst I´m here, here are my babies for those who havent "met" them yet I took these pics today and they look so cute..they seem to change daily! http://s583.photobucket.com/albums/ss279/mom_2_3/Family%20photos%20etc/?action=view¤t=MiloAbril19.jpg http://s583.photobucket.com/albums/ss279/mom_2_3/Family%20photos%20etc/?action=view¤t=MiloAbril192.jpg http://s583.photobucket.com/albums/ss279/mom_2_3/Family%20photos%20etc/?action=view¤t=MiloAbril191.jpg http://s583.photobucket.com/albums/ss279/mom_2_3/Family%20photos%20etc/?action=view¤t=MiloBellaAbril19.jpg http://s583.photobucket.com/albums/ss279/mom_2_3/Family%20photos%20etc/?action=view¤t=BellaAbril19.jpg http://s583.photobucket.com/albums/ss279/mom_2_3/Family%20photos%20etc/?action=view¤t=BellaAbril191.jpg http://s583.photobucket.com/albums/ss279/mom_2_3/?action=view¤t=Bellaprincesa.jpg (a pic I took of bella the other day..she looks so "inocent" in this one! HA!)

i am sorry i don't have any good advice that disease is not real common in the united states. "There has only been one major outbreak reported in the US. The outbreak occurred in foxhound populations throughout the eastern United States and Canada and spread in foxhound kennels through blood transfusions and by congenital transmission." | |

| I have never heard of that illness. Did the vet say its a big problem in your area? I personally am not a fan of trying brand new things like that because they don't always have enough testing done and sometimes they wont know the all the long term side effects for awhile.

ALOT of dogs get it and most of them die because the symptoms take a long time to show and by then, its usually too late. I dont like that it´s still very new either...I may wait a little being as I havent been able to talk with anyone else who´s babys had the shot. Thank you for all the compliments

| I would say get the vaccine if it's known to be safe and the disease is prevalent in your area. I've never heard of it, but that doesn't mean that it's not horrible. Your babies are adorable

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | It sounds like it's tranmitted by the sandfly. Canine leishmaniasis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The disease entered this country in 2000, and seems to be spreading, some breeds are more susceptible to it. There is no cure, so I guess that's why some will recommend immunization. I would talk this over with my vet if I were you, and if it’s in your area you might want to take some type of precautions. It sounds like a pretty nasty disease. Humans can also get it. Leishmaniasis - PubMed Health
