Smokers Beware!!!

My grandpa smoked from a very early age and he had a toy poodle (Salty) that sat right next to him in his recliner every time my grandpa sat down. He sat between my grandpa's leg and the table with the ashtray on it. That poor baby died of emphysema (according to the vet) and my grandpa quit cold turkey the day he found that out. That nearly killed him that he harmed his baby in that way. Kudos to those of you that take it outside (as do I, so I understand!).

sorry to say , im smoke too,, what a terrible habit i cannot change.
i smoke outside also... i so want to quit so bad, its sooooooo hard though.
i bought the niccorette gum and im gonna try it very soon.. i think ive had
enough of smoking, really... its killing me....

I, too, smoke outside. Hubby doesn't smoke, never has. Even though I smoke, I can't stand the smell of smoke in my home! Is that wierd or what?

I've never been a smoker, but we have lots of smokers in the family. I have seen the bad side too many times and too many painful deaths. I keep telling my kids to never start, because once you do, you find yourself in a vicious cycle. I don't know one smoker who wouldn't go back and change things if they could and never start. Not one. Every smoker I know wants to quit. God I wish we could find some way to help people quit easier!! Same with FOOD addiction...LOL sign me up for the "I don't live to eat, I eat to live" pill!!

I have just recently gave up smoking, but when I did smoke I NEVER smoked in the house. I cannot stand the smell on my clothes, furniture, or anything. My BF smokes still, he is hopeless. He smokes in the garage or outside. Last night we took Rocky with use to a friend's house. Well, they smoke in the house, and my little baby keep making little sneezing sounds. I don't think he likes it either. I feel bad for our friend's yorkie having to live in a smoke filled house.

I've never smoked and I really have no desire to...but my hubby does smoke...outside, never inside so Miko never has to smell the smoke. He is in the process of trying to quit...Hopefully, he won't pick it back up this time I actually don't think he'll have a problem this time because he really wants to quit, and that's the first step.
A lot of people who try to quit smoking can't do it because deep down they really don't want to. It scares me to think that I could lose him someday due to this terribly unhealthy habit. I've known several people who have passed away due to lung problems and it's so sad to think that this could have been prevented.
There is no way to force someone to quit smoking though...no matter how many times you tell them that it's bad for them, they will quit when they're ready. I firmly believe that. My mom used to smoke and she HATED when ppl were always telling her to quit. She ended up quitting when she was ready.

I have several friends that smoke but never in their house. They always go outside. My husband used to smoke. He quit for me and that just made me love him that much more. My dad smoked up until a few months before he died from emphyzema. Sorry I don't mean to preach or be a downer. He always smoked in the house and I had asthma and allergies all of my life.

I'm so allergic to it. My husband started going outside and just smoking on the way home from work but, it got so bad that I couldn't go near him. So he finally gave them up. I just wish he would give up the skoal. Me I've never smoked.

I agree you can't force someone to quit unless they really want to quit and you are just the excuse they need to actually do it. To me it's a legalized drug. My grandfather use to grow tobacco this year was the first year he hadn't in years. He would stay sick with a cold and allergies all the time. We tried to tell him that it was more than likely due to him handling the tobacco. But, as we all know you can't tell men anything once that get something in their minds(No offense to the men on the forum). Of course it's even harder to try and tell a 70+ year old man.
