Empty Nest...before or after?

We had a Lhasa with the kids and it was no problem, other than Bayr would bite. But he didn't just bite kids, he bit anyone if he had a mindset. The kids have been gone now about 8 years. I thought getting a Yorkie would be a nice addition to our empty nest. My wife wasn't so sure.

Last weekend we were visiting my parents with Bailey. For the record Natalie (my wife) said and I quote: "I'd get rid of Ron before I got rid of Bailey!".

Pre-nester. I had a bad boyfriend and felt so alone all the time. I just wanted something to love and care for, but definitely not a child! Then Kaji came into my life. He is so needy! He needed to be de-sensitized to people, noises, new environments... He needed to be trained and someone to build his self confidence because he had none. And my favorite part, he needed someone to just love him. He filled that empty spot I had in my heart and in my life. Bad boyfriend is long gone and I couldn't feel more at ease. I'm still very much loved.

I just turned 20 and Luma has been the best kind of therapy for me!! I lived in SC for the last 12 years and my boyfriend was a year older so he went off to college before me. He got a full ride to Texas A&M, so of course he went. We spent two years dating long distance. I went off to college in upstate SC to be an elementary school music teacher and then I decided that I needed to be where I am actually happy, it was effecting my schoolwork. So I finisshed freshman year and then moved to Texas. It's been hard literally having only my bf, I dont make friends very fast, and I am not in school this year so I was alone alot. My favorite thing about myself is that I have a huge mothering instinct. And so I decided to get a yorkie, someone to the take care of and love on, and she is my bff! We definitely want kids..he wants two, I want like...five... So Luma is my baby girl and I'm her mama.

I am an empty nester, I got Jersey after DD was moved out and married, DS was in HS. When DS went away to college little Miss Brielle joined our family. My empty nest is now filled with so much unconditional love I wouldn't have it any other way

I get the sense you are a good and responsbile dog owner, but I was a bit concerned to see you post about surprsing your mom with a dog. I hope you didn't literally mean surprise since that's a bad idea with a pet. Good intentions could lead to a heavy unwanted burden if your mom doesn't actually want a dog.

Thanks. Yep of course. Ive disscussed it with my mom and she wants a dog shes stuck at home all day unless shes shopping or with her friends. So when i say surprise i mean surprise like omg! I wanted this doggie! I would never randomly get someone a dog.

That's how Kaji makes me feel all the time. I'm so happy to have him. He's my little buddy and I just love having him around.
