I prefer not to give my dogs any cooked food. it takes most of the nutrients they need out of it as well many things we love to eat are toxic for our dogs such as onions.

RAW food is avlible everywhere...as in uncooked fruits and vegis-meat from he store you just give it to them uncooked, eggs etc.

Taste of the Wild is readily available in Canada so is Stella and Chewy's Raw patties (I LOVE those as I don't like seeing or smelling raw meat).

If you do cook for your dogs remember they can't eat the same balance of diet we do also check toxic foods, plants and herbs...you may very well make your dog sicker with cooking for her if you aren't well researched in it.

There are some people on here who home cook for there dogs and you many want to post a new thread in the health section to learn more about it. You need to talk to a dog nutristionist to make sure your doing it right as well as know what kind of supplement is needed.

Since she has allergies, I would consult with a professional dog nutritionist (dietician). You need to balance her food so she gets all the right nutrients and avoid any more uncomfortable allergy flare ups.

I would consult with a nutritionist with a healthy dog anyway. Just my two cents..

I will talk to my vet this morning. This is what he suggested to me before because Bikini is a picky eater. He said that he has a good book for feeding home food to my dog. I will go and buy it with the cortisooth shampoo.
I have tried orijen, blue buffalo, taste of wild, medical... And a few others but without success. She is very picky... I know she LOVES fresh salmon, chicken, beef, watermelon, apples, peppers, carrots so I am sure I could have a happy puppy with raw food

I will go and check out Stella and Chewy Raw's. Those could be a good back up for when I have her babysit or when I am too busy.
I am motivated as I think this is the way to go with her allergies. I have to take her off the meds. Already sinve she is off she doesn't sap has much, she lost weight and sleeps better. So far she scratches but not to an extreme...
Than, I will resolve the barking in the meantime

Look up Tollden farms that is a Canadian company I'm in Toronto. That's the raw myself and several friends are feeding our wee fluffers.
It's got a list of stores on the site where it's available. Global Pets carry it.

I think if you can feed her grain free you will be making a big step in the right direction. The problem is that many of the grain free foods use white potatoes and that can be an allergen problem. Making your own food is an option. You can cook it or not. Sweet potatoes in place of grain is a good substitute. Sweet potatoes are very nutrient rich and dogs usually love them. If you feel more comfortable cooking food there is a good supplement called The Missing Link. It helps to replace the nutrients and enzymes that get cooked out of dog foods. Hope you can find it in Canada.

I got feeding raw because when Gracie was a puppy she refused all kibble. I had to cook for her until I found a solution. After much investigation I went with raw. Even finding a good raw company is complicated. You can use organic baby foods. Always make sure there is no onion powder in them. If you do cook for her or give her baby food I would really suggest you give her a good supplement.
I gradually went from cooking for her to raw food. I would give her raw meat mixed with steamed sweet potatoes, green beans, peas and carrots. She loved it and it was such a relief to me just to see her eating at all! The enzymes in raw also keep the teeth clean and free from tarter.
Just try to stay away from fatty meats. Don't give her chicken with skin on it or fatty beef. Fish is great and so is duck, bison, and other grass fed animals.

Do you think her issues are because of the prednisone(sp)? This medicine makes humans edgy and cranky if taken for a long period of time.

It's funny you should mention watermelon. Kaji loves fresh fruits and veggies, including watermelon. Only he doesn't seem to notice it makes him gassy! Little guy toots up a storm and just looks at me like, "what was that!?" It's so funny!

hahah Princess still toots and then turns in a circle to say 'who made that sound and did something to my bottom at the same times' she will schnauzer glare the boys down trying to decide who did it-then sniff around like she's trying to decide who tooted and left the scent around her! Broccoli really gets her going!

You totally reminded me of when my friends two female Yorkies came to stay with me. Teegy toots the silent and deadlies but April the little princes let a big un rip and I couldn't help but laugh at the time.

So I went to my vet and I got this cooking books that comes with supplements. The receipes are easy and I know the exact amount of supplements to add to it. There are some receipes made especially for dog food allergies

It's called Hilary's blend.
