Hi! I'm Cathryn. I bought a 10 week old yorkie 6 weeks ago. I was told that "Roxie" would be about 4-5 pounds as an adult. Today she weighed 7.1 pounds. I love her and do not want to give her back but what is going on? and what should I do?

As long as you love your pup, does it really matter to you what size she is? I am not a breeder, but I know from visiting here since August that Yorkies not only come in various sizes but many different colors as well, including red! As long as you love her and she loves you, size should not matter, provided she is healthy. Have you had your vet look at her since she has gained weight? Might be a good idea, just in case.

Both my dogs passed the weight my breeder said they would be and what weight charts estimated them at. Unless the breeder takes in account the ancestory of the dogs they cannot give a good estimate on the weight. My male is 9lbs his parents were 5 snd 6 lbs and thats what the breeder told me he would be.

Hi, and welcome to YT! OK, you say she's 10 weeks now and you got her 6 weeks ago? That would mean she was 4 weeks when you got her? Thats way too young to be seperated from the mom. Where did you get her? She's going to be a big girl, that's for sure. But as long as you love her, weight shouldn't really matter. Again welcome to YT Catheryn and Roxie!

Some just get big. How much did she weigh when you bought her? The breeder doesn't always know. If she was big 3lbs. or more when you got her, then she will be a big one. So she's 7 lbs. and is 16 weeks, she will be a big girl.

I do love her but I guress the point is that I feel that I was taken advantage of by the breeder. Her size doesn't affect my feelings for her but it makes me mad to get taken. I also wonder if she was fed enough before I got her because she sure has gained weight quickly. Roxie has been to the vet twice and after treating 2 ear infections and finally getting rid of scaly skin, she is doing very well.

Easy answer - you LOVE her....there is nothing you can 'do' If you've already had her for 6 weeks...she should be part of your life now.

I would hate to see you give her up just because she is a bit bigger than what you expected.

I have NO intention of letting her go! She is mine and already has made her way from her crate onto the bed. At first I let her sleep with us because she would not whine as often to go out. It was every 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours. Now I only have to get up about once a night. I'm hooked.

My pup was eight weeks old and nine ounces when I brought him home. His breeder said he would be three or four pouns grown. Both his parents were under four pounds. Won't say how much cause i don't want people to get on a roll today. Anyhow, she only had one momma that was even five pounds. no other dogs close to that size. WELLLLLL, at twelve weeks i took him to the vet to be weighed and he weighed 1.7 which according to the chart puts him at just under three pounds grown. he is four and a half months old now and last week when he was sick and at the vet, he already weighed 2.6. Now that he is well and eating I am sure it is more. so what does this tell you? YES, I am disappointed because he is not going to be the tiny guy I wanted but do I love him any less. A resounding No way!!!!!. besides my grandkids, he is the joy of my life and even if he reaches ten pounds (which I hope he don't. I will still love him. I am not upset at the breeder at all. My husband breeds beagles and there is just no real way to know for sure what a pup will weigh when grown. Only problem I am having is I have a female coming from this lady in the next couple of months and now i am thinking I will not be able to breed her to Ceeby when he is old enough because she will be too small.

Love has no size/shape/measurment....Love is your Yorkie...Love is my Yorkie....Love is their Yorkie. All shapes, sizes, and different looks is what makes them so special.

When we brought Milo home he was smaller than Max by about 6 oz - so we figured he may be the same size or smaller- they have the same father- Well at 1 yr max is 4lbs and at 10 months Milo is 7lbs! So you never know--their dad was only 5lbs and moms were around 7....no biggee we love em just teh same- he is our "big" boy!

size doesnt matter as long as you love her who cares what size she gets.
my rosie weighs 9 1/2lb, when i first got her i wanted her to stay tiny, as she grew i stopped thinking i wanted her extra small, iv heard that very small yorkies can have all sorts of problems, the only problem my rosie has is whos going to cuddle her next.
im glad shes that size living in my home with 2 teenage men and hubby to theres lots of rough and tumble and if she was tiny could easily be badly hurt.
on the other hand had she stayed tiny it wouldnt of mattered either. all yorkie mummys and daddys LOVE there babies no matter how much they weigh, just enjoy her as im sure you will

What should you do? Just love her. That's all she asks in return. I have noted in the past that people have given up yorkies to rescue when they got bigger than what they wanted. That, to me, was the saddest thing; to realize that people can base their love on the size of the puppies. Heartbreaking! In my life, if I looked at my puppies, I could have found things wrong with them, but then again, I'm not perfect, either. And I don't expect them to be perfect, either!
