Meet Steve! Hi, I admit I've been a lurker since we began our search for a yorkie a month or so ago. We did buy Steve from a local breeder, he's akc registered and currently 13 weeks old. This is our first Yorkie and most of what I know of the breed I have read on this forum and a few books from the local library. We've had him to the vet twice for shots so far and on our last visit the vet asked what he was mixed with...uhhhhh, supposedly another yorkie. Well, that's not it, he said his legs seem a little cow hocked in the rear and bent in the front. I inquired if it was LP and he stated his knees were fine but suggested we bring him back in two weeks and he may look at bracing his front legs. Aw, not my sweet, smart, very athletic puppy!!! But of course, we will do whatever is needed, we love him to death. Also his hair is still very short. My main concerns are: is he all yorkie, so we know what his legs are supposed to look like and is this breeder ripping other people off? I wouldn't trade him but any opinions on his looks would be greatly appreciated. http://i747.photobucket.com/albums/x...e/26fd90de.jpg http://i747.photobucket.com/albums/x...e/190e2200.jpg http://i747.photobucket.com/albums/x...e/52acafcf.jpg http://i747.photobucket.com/albums/x...e/92e85248.jpg http://i747.photobucket.com/albums/x...e/ae1ba0f6.jpg Photobucket links hopefully attached below. |
Hi and welcome!! Your puppy is very cute!! However he does not strike me as "all Yorkie" I'm sure you will love him all the same! Congrats |
He is cute. Congrats on your new baby. He does look to be mixed with something else. |
2 Attachment(s) Kyra is almost 15 weeks and has quite a bit more hair. I am not an expert but would think he should have more. He is adorable though :). Below is a picture of Kyra at close to same age as your baby. |
Welcome to YT. In my opinion, he does not look like a typical Yorkshire Terrier puppy. He is cute as can be. |
When I first saw your pics I thought Yorkie and Chihuahua. If you really want to know there is a blood test that can be done I don't know how much it cost but I know others on here have had experience with that. :mad:I hate it when I here about people getting fooled by BYB!!!! Sorry. But no matter what he is mixed with I bet he will be a perfect little pup!! |
Also have you contacted the breeder since you have been to the vet with your concerns? If you paid a good yorkie price for your baby and they are registering them with the akc I would think they might let you keep him and refund a good portion of your money since akc would frown on them selling a mix as a full blooded Yorkie. |
He's very cute, but he is mixed. This will show you what yorkies look like at different ages: pictures |
I'm definitly no expert, but he looks like a Chorkie (chihauhau/yorkie). I got my yorkie Henri when he was 9 weeks and he was fluffy. Steve may or may not be all yorkie, but he sure is a cutie! |

I did email the breeder today with my concerns and suggested "chorkie" likeness. I didn't want to say it before you guys had a chance to see him for yourselves. And yes we did pay yorkie price for him so I hope to approach a partial refund with her but not expecting much. The father was supposedly the male we met and the mother supposedly died several days after the pups were born. His 1 sister was very similar to him and a very small girl was more hairy. I mostly wanted her to know she isn't fooling us and I don't have a problem reporting her to the akc even though he will lose his pedigree. Not that it means anything at this point. We wanted him for a pet and he is an absolute joy. He has a playpen and is pee pad trained a few days after we brought him home when he was 9 weeks. He already sits and fetches. As for his legs, I am wondering if chorkie legs are angled differently. Any other steps we should take regarding both his breeder and health. Thanks for everyone's great feedback. I feel like part of a little community, have to admit I was jealous of my hubby's jeep forum, lol. |
:welcome4: Steve is adorable! I too agree that he's a mix and would be in contact with the breeder. |

I would insist upon a partial refund. You could get the DNA test and prove he is not full Yorkie. Just because of the principle. There was a Judge Judy episode about a similar situation and the Plaintiff won. |
Sorry... we were posting at the same time :) Glad you contacted the breeder... very suspicious. Did the breeder give a health record and AKC paper with names and breed of the dam and sire? I would get the name of the vet they use for their dogs too. I hope you are able to pursue the partial refund and reporting her to AKC. |
He definitely is not purebred... I hope your breeder doesn't give you any troubles and that you report her. She took advantage of you and is lying. |
Not a pure bred but he is cute as a button, I would say he is without a doubt a chorkie |
Steve is very cute, and looks like a little lover, but like others said not a full yorkie. The short corse hair and long snout is a dead give a way, does he shed? To me he could also be mixed with a dachshund . It really does pizz me off when a breeder does this to a first time buyer of a puppy, you say he is 13 weeks old and you have had him to the vet twice for shots, how old was he when you got him. The problem with buying a yorkie at about 8 or 10 weeks is you do not know what they will really look like, LOL to me all yorkie pups under the age of about 8 weeks look like little Rottweilers. I bet he is a great puppy so I can see why you are in love with him, but if you paid for a full yorkie the breeder owes you a partial refund. To me I think about $450 is fair, that's what I paid for my yorkie-pom. Please even though you love him, do not let her get away with this, because it is just not fair to do this to people. Good luck and post more pictures as he grows and I hope you keep your membership here. |
sorry I just reread and saw he was about 9 weeks old when you bought him, so that also indicates she is a crappy breeder that cares more about the money aspect of breeding. Not that breeders should not make money, because if it is done correctly it is not a cheap venture. But if you charge full yorkie prices that's what you should give your customers, and you should keep them 12 weeks, give them most of their shots, and not cut corners. With these type of breeders, it does not help to just let them know you know, hit them where it hurts in their pockebook, this way they might think twice the next time. Sorry if I sound angry, I guess I am, it just makes my blood boil when people do this type of stuff. |
Adorable! |
No matter what he is an adorable puppy. But I agree, he does have a mix look to him! Good luck with the breeder! |
No matter what he is mixed with, he is very sweet looking. Love the picture of the two of you!!!!:) |
Thanks everybody for being so welcoming and knowledgable. We'll see if the breeder emails/calls tomorrow. Of course I would love to stay a member as everything I've learned has already paid off. I will keep ya'll informed as to our progress with both my health concerns and the breeder. Oh yeah as for the first vet, he/she said normal puppy on health certificate but neither testicle was descended at the time. I'll get to the bottom of that too. |
Omg, he is just the cutest. I have to say though he does not look all yorkie. Maybe mixed with chihuahua or min pin he is very sweet |
Hi and welcome, he sure is a cutie.... |
Hes a cutie, But i would say he is a chihuahua.:) |
hes adorable and i thought chorkie as well at first. good luck keep up updated on his lil legs. =*(()) and welcome to yt. |
ADORABLE!!! looks like yorkie/chi to me...He is so cute!! |
Welcome to YT. Regardless if Steve is part Yorkie, he's still a cutie pie. Also, you're still welcome regardless of what the DNA tests say! Like the others said, if you get the proof of his breed by doing the DNA tests, and also report it to the AKC, you should be getting a refund from the crappy breeder. Good luck! And keep us posted. |
