I believe it is normal for a pup of 9 weeks to not have descended testicles. Max had his second one drop after his 13-week old exam if I recall correctly. Sending best wishes to Steve that all will be okay with his legs. Congrats on your new pup! Enjoy. |
He is a cutie and the name Steve is awesome! I am sorry that you were duped by the breeder though, ugh. |
Welcome. Regardless, if he's full blooded or mixed, Steve looks like the perfect companion. I like his face. He seems like a happy guy. So long as he brings joy to your family, you have the right dog. |
Update on breeder response. I'm summarizing. She said she only has had yorkies and he is purebred yorkie. She even gave me a link to the DNA testing company. No offer of a refund or concern shown. He goes back to the vet 3/30 to check his legs. He'll be about 16 weeks. As for the breeder, we aren't done with her. |
If she only has yorkies then there must of been a fox aka chi in the henhouse lol. Good luck. Oh and did she say what she would do if the test comes back mixed? |
Thanks for sharing the info about Steve and he is cute as a button. I agree with everyone who said you should speak to the breeder and get a refund. You will also be helping other people if you speak up. It is such a horrible thing for a "breeder" to do. I can feel the love you have for you baby and he is so fortunate to have you :) |
Steve is darling, I agree with the other posts he isn't full blooded yorkie, to me I think he maybe yorkie/min pin |

Defently keep us up on what happens with the breeder!! |
I will keep all of you posted on both the breeder and his health. He really is a joy regardless. http://i747.photobucket.com/albums/x...e/42e4a5b2.jpg Thanks for all the good advice. I'm still thinking yorkie/chi mix by the looks of the puppies I've seen. Who knows? |
I think it all sounds like such a set up. He is an adorable little dog and I can see why you love him. I would not part with him either. Does that breeder have other dogs that she breeds? Did you see a lot of dogs at her place? Does she live near where you live? You might want to call your vet and ask him for advice about the DNA testing. If you don't use the company that this "breeder" suggested is she going to say you did not use a reputable company? Once you get the DNA testing results you can report her to the AKC and as many other groups as you can think of. How do people think they can get away with things like this? Your not the first. It seems to happen way too frequently. |
That puppy is so adorable but partly what makes him cuter is that name. "Steve". I don't know if I have ever heard of a dog named "Steve" before and it just enchanted me! It fits him! Those eyes and his charming little way of looking at the camera are precious. Steve is a keeper. He almost certainly a precious mix of some kind in my opinion and his hair looks to be courser not to mention slicker and shorter than a Yorkie's. I wonder if it will grow out lengthwise as a Yorkie's does? If you paid a full-breed price for him, I would definitely contact the breeder and AKC and find out what is going on with this breeding and the papers. But whatever his breed may be, little Steve is just a cutey with a face to die for! |
http://i747.photobucket.com/albums/x...e/42e4a5b2.jpg We love him but we are still going to deal with that breeder properly. I tried to post a few minutes ago but it doesn't seem to have posted. I was just thanking everyone again for their advice and compliments on our boy. We love him regardless. And to answer some of the questions, she had 3 puppies for sale. 2 girls and Steve. One of the girls was almost identical to Steve and the other was tiny and fuzzier like a typical yorkie. The dad was on site. Mom supposedly died 5 days after their birth but we were shown pics. His sister, a parti from another litter was there. Both dad and sissy looked yorkie to me but what do I know. She has some nerve. We insisted on coming to her place and seeing her home too. She also knew we both are in law enforcement. Hmmmfff. |
Glad you are pursuing this. Glad wonderful little Steve has his forever home. |
it seems odd the mom *died* and your little steve isn't full blooded, I think the mom wasn't full yorkie or maybe not a yorkie, the photo she showed you was probably not the mom, so you have to take her word for it. I do believe Steve is ment to be with you. Good luck to you, the breeder needs to be reported. |
Just wanted to say Welcome! Steve is such a cutie pie! |
Hey everybody, Just wanted to post the latest from Steve's "breeder". See below. I was going thru my spam mail and just seen your email. I have never had any other dogs only my 2 females and only my one Stud male. They are "Stacie-was" only Yorkshire Terrier. I would never mislead anyone to make a sale. I am very careful with whom I choose to take my babies into new homes. If you would like at your expense, Have him DNAed, I provided you the info for the Dog DNA, when it comes in the mail, call me, we can go to the post office, DNA the puppy there, seal it and mail it off and wait for the results. I am 100% positive your puppy is 100% Yorkshire Terrier. I would never mislead anyone. It really makes me feel bad that you would think of me as a deceiving person, I am very honest, I have people still calling me asking for a puppy because they have seen new owners with full grown dogs they purchased from me and they are gorgeous! I could send you the website in California of his family tree, only Yorkshire terriers there, no other breed and they are beautiful. The puppies there "like your puppy" go for around 2,500 for the male. if you would like that info, let me know. If there was any chance he was not purebred he would not be AKC and I would not offer you the website info for DNA. I understand you want to make sure you get what you asked for "yorkshire Terrier and I'm 100% sure he is so I wanted to put your mind at ease. Your welcome to call me with any questions. I guess a DNA test will prove all our suspicions but this is what I am dealing with. On a better note, Steve is still a dreamboat. He is such a good puppy, pee pad trained, swimming in the pool with us, fetching, sitting, and standing on command. The come command isn't quite as good, but hey we can't be perfect. lol I wanted to thank you all again for the support and forum to vent. Steve's ma |
I still have to wonder why this breeder is insisting that you use the DNA test that SHE wants you to use. I find her letter less than convincing. You have been scammed. Has Steve changed at all in the way he looks? Any long hair or something that would be more Yorkie like? Get your own DNA kit and test the little guy. Get one that your vet recommends not what she says to get. Send the breeder the results along with a recent picture of Steve and see if she bothers to answer you then. |
How convenient it went to spam. Sounds a little fishy that she wants you to use her DNA test. I would do that as well as my own. Steve is such a doll baby:D |
Judge Judy did a case like this not too long ago. There was no DNA test needed, the dog obviously wasn't a purebred and the lady was refunded much of her payment. Breeders know you're not going to return the dog, no matter what, but you can take them to small claims court. |
Hi and Welome to YT! I agree with the others, your baby does looked mixed, maybe Chorkie.. BUT he is soo cute. But I def understand your frustration if this breeder is telling people they are breeding pure yorkies and it turns out to be untrue, thats not ok |
Welcome to YT! You definitely found the right place to get your questions answered. Steve is super adorable, and no matter what the DNA results turn out to be, he's still going to be just adorable :) |
Here are some more recent pics of Steve. I'm doing the research on DNA tests now. His hair does seem to be growing a lot more. He also is a great swimmer. I feel like one of those mom's bragging that their kid is the smartest, haha. http://i747.photobucket.com/albums/x...h_c06cb5c9.jpg http://i747.photobucket.com/albums/x...h_0d667177.jpg |
http://i747.photobucket.com/albums/x...h_c06cb5c9.jpg http://i747.photobucket.com/albums/x...h_0d667177.jpg Don't know why this didn't post earlier, I'm not very good with posting just yet. This is a few updated photos of Steve. His hair is beginning to grow a lot more. I am researching the different brands of DNA tests. We aren't due back to the vet until neuter/microchip days but I may stop by to buy his heart worm/frontline refills and ask their recommendation also. As you can see Steve is a great swimmer too. |
He's adorable but Definitely not pure Yorkie. I also see the problem with his legs, Hope the vet can take care of that. I would definitely do a DNA but at least he is smart and learning all his basics plus healthy. Sometimes a mix is better my little girl Teasell is two now but we have had so many health scares (allergies) I would almost wish she weren't AKC but not have the allergy issues |
Steve is so cute and I love the pic of him swimming. We all brag that's what Mom's do;) |
Cute puppy and welcome. My pup Milo doesn't have really long hair yet either but I think it's because it is so warm here. I saw his mother and father so he's a yorkie....it doesn't really matter except that you love them.... |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. No matter what we want you to stay on here. Even if Steve is not a full yorkie he is still adorable and you are still welcome here. I am fairly new here, but everybody seems to be so nice and welcoming. I have to say though he looks like an exact duplicate of a puppy I once had. He was yorkie and chihuahua too. I got the same run around from the breeder. She gave me AKC papers just like yours did to you. Her vet said he was full Yorkie. My vet took one look at him and wrote down chihuahua yorkie mix. When I questioned her she said there was no way that he could be anything other than yorkie, but the older he got he resembled a chihuahua more and more. I even tried to confront her vet that told me he was full yorkie and of course they had no comment. She offered to let me bring him back, but I was already attached to him. I was really heartbroken that someone could take advantage of someone like that. It took me 8 years to trust enough to try again for a full yorkie, but now I have my Toby. I always thought well if they are AKC they have to be full, but that situation showed me I was wrong. Regardless your puppy is a cutie. |
Steve is adorable  :) None the less,I would be VERY angry to have payed out the money for a purebred yorkie and find out he isnt one.I dont know how much you actually payed, but I do know that in the US,yorkies are waaay more expensive than they are here, and money doesnt grow on trees. I´d deffinatly persue a refund, partial or even full (I´d go for a full),so you at least have the option (legally) of getting an actual yorkie which is what you originally wanted and asumed you had bought. As adorable as he is and as much as you love him, dont let the breeder get away with it,because the fact that he is a mix is extremly obvious,so I dont know who she thinks she´s kidding and she will not have a leg to stand on beleive me ;) Even here there are breeders that take advantage of those that dont know very much about a certain breed in order to place "accidental" litters (which Im sure is the case with Steve and the reason you were told his mother had died.I bet she isnt a yorkie at all). I wish you luck and congrats on your baby boy! I dont doubt that he brings you tons of joy..he´s adorable!! :D |
He is definitely not pure bred. To me he looks mixed with a short hair chiuahua |
