My yorkie is very big. She is 14 lbs...and she has very big ears. The breeder i bought her from gave me AKC papers and everything..but is this normal for a yorkie to look like this?

There are yorkies on here bigger than that and yes some yorkies have big ears.

Zowie's ears look really, really big when the hair grows out on them. Then when I trim them, they look sorta small

in comparison. It is common for them to be all sizes.

I have a male and female (AKC), they are about 6 and 8 pounds, their babies are now six months old and weigh 3, 5, 9 and 10.4 pounds. Go figure?

Most likely your Yorkie is purebred, but I would have to say..that in part depends on the source of the puppy..We have posted many times about PMers or others, using a Silkie mom and a small Yorkie sire to cut down on spending money by having too few in the litter or having c-sections. As others have said...there are Yorkies bigger than that who are the loves of their owners' lives..

I am under the impression it is very easy to bogus AKC papers from software and if the owners do not follow up with AKC they might think they have an AKC dog. Is this true?

That would be a good question to ask customer service at AKC.org.. Maybe you can find out if there was a litter reg by that person on the day your baby was born..Let us know, okay?

one of my yorkies, Tucker is 12.7 lbs. (weighed today) and he has AKC papers too, i've seen his lines, and even though he's big he's full blood yorkshire terrier

AKC papers does not mean that you can expect a certain qaulity of dog. AKC does more then most other registries to try but the bottom line is that the consumer is the first line of defense.

You need to read about the breed and what is a desired and a not desired trait ( Fault). Every dog has faults it is just that some of them are difficult
to breed out once you reinforce them in the gene pool. Not working hard to breed to the standard will mean that in the future you would not be able to tell a yorkie from a mixed breed dog- There will be none of those wonderful characteristics that set them apart from other dogs in their looks and temperment.

Not meaning to insult anyone but there are and I will use the words-grades of yorkies- some are bred and resemble the AKC Standard more then others.
This does not mean any are any less loving or deserving our love and affection.

Do not believe any one who tells you there is a pet standard and a show standard for our breed or any other breed. Some breeders choose to use animals in their breeding program that have numerous faults who should have not have been bred. This is how we get some of our babies that have registry papers but folks will ask is he/she purebred or do I have a yorkie?

For example in a highly regulated breeding program you can end up with a dog that will be over 7 pounds. It does happen - a gene from many generations ago kicks in-and that big boy or girl is the result. We find a loving home who wants a larger puppy- perfect for a family with younger active children or an older adult who is afraid they might step on a little one. Do we breed that baby no- it is placed as a pet with restricted papers. The only way that a breeder can make sure that puppies they do not want bred is to have them altered before they place them in their new homes.

Let's say...God forbid...someone has a female yorkies that dies or is stolen...etc. They still have her AKC papers. They go out and buy a silky...or something that resembles a yorkie but isn't a yorkie. They breed that bitch to an AKC yorkie male. As dishonest as it is, they could still register the litter. AKC DNAs male studs but not the females. How could the mother be verified?

There are quite a few members who have larger yorkies, but yorkies they are, more to love. I have one who is 8 lbs now and I think still growing and one who is about 3 1/5 llbs now. Since I now have experience with both, I could determine when I pick one out about how large he/she will get, but nothing is guaranteed in life and the size of a yorkie is one of them. Mine are also AKC registered.
