New Yorkie/Bad Hair :/ I just got my first yorkie. She is 4 months old and 4lbs. I met both her mom and dad when I went to see her. I visited twice before I decided to buy my new little girl. Question: Her mom and dad and 2 year old sister have silky thick nice looking hair. My little girls is short, thin and rough. The breeder fed cheap puppy chow. Could this be to cheap dog food? The breeder also told me that my little girls hair will grow in like her sisters. Will it? I have her on "Blue tiny breed puppy" kibble now. Will her hair grow out so she looks more like her mom, sister and dad after feeding her better food? And if so, how long will it take to start seeing results?

| Food wont affect coat texture or length that is genetics. It may just be the puppy coat though and change as she gets older

I agree with cachi it's probably puppy hair. It tends to be more course looking than their adult coat, mine had the same thing going on now it's thick and silky. Give it some time i'm sure she'll have a beautiful coat

When we got Abby she had a very straight, short coat.I was afraid it was going to be coarse as it grew. She was on an ok food (the cheapest wellness) but certainly didn't get enough of it(one of 5 litter) she was starving! Took a while to fill her out- then her hair started to grow! I started to trim the crispy edges. Now at 7 months she has a pretty shiny, slick straight coat and her head and legs are coming in silky and fine. A breeze to care for!

One of our yorkies was silky very early at age, and the other was black for a few years then BOOM she sure grew silver fast. They are both from the same bloodlines so def was hereditary. I look at a picture of the one who was black for a few years to what she looks like now and she is a totally different dog, lol. Her coat now is so silky if you drop a hair in the sun shining in your window it will actually float through the air without dropping.

Do you mind if you share pictures of your yorkie if you have them, when he was little? Im just trying to compare. My little girl looks so different then the rest of the litter from what I could see from pictures.

Thanks everyone! You are giving me hope! It just worries me that her hair is so thin, almost balding like on her head. Not like the cute hair balls pictures you see of baby yorkies all the time. Im trying to post a picture so you guys can check her out and tell me what you think. Im new to this She is 4 months old. Maybe its because she doesnt have that "baby doll face" most yorkies have?
