Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | ![]() It is a rude question, but I don't think most people realize it is. I get that all the time from friends. I originally told them because I'm not ashamed of the expenses, but after hearing O.M.G.! so many times, I decided they don't need to know. I will share that information with people interested in buying a Yorkie though, just to let them know what they're possibly getting into.

| ![]() There was a time when it was considered bad manners to ask a person about how much something cost or how much money a person makes. It seems that people in this day have no idea of what being polite is and have no manners what so ever. It is your business what you do with your money. You don't owe anyone an answer to a question about how much anything cost. Since most people are ignorant about such matters I just avoid conversations that might lead to having someone ask such questions. |

| ![]() This is a good discussion. Yes I do lie to idiots that don't understand about pets. I never say a price of anything anymore because people that don't want to understand think my husband and I are nuts. The expense on our last yorkie Keally was horrendus and we would of sold some things to keep her alive. Unfortunantely we had to put our baby down and we were devastated. We bought Kinder and my Mom thought the price was crazy so now I never say anything. At least we have PetPlan Insurance which helps and hopefully our little girl always stays healthy. I hate to lie about prices but you can not win with the ones that don't like pets. |

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | ![]() My husband and immediate family (Mom, Dad, in laws, brother, SIL) all know how much we paid for Katie Scarlett. They also know how much we spoil her. But I have never told a stranger any of that. I would feel comfortable talking with fellow YT'ers about any of it, but not a stranger out in public.

| ![]() So glad I'm not alone!!! I have to laugh though cuz everyone wonders why my Sheriff Deputy husband didn't retire a year ago with 35 years! Its because we've had to take out loans, infact not only was my husband suppose to retire but we bought land in the country to build a house, guess what? Not gonna happen! lol we are stuck in the city and hopefully can get a nice RV to stay summers out there, WHY? Because our Miss Mini is severely allergic to just about everything in the woods!!! My husbands friends blame me cuz he don't go hunting for 2 weeks anymore! My husband will pretend its because hes "fed up" with one of the guys, its because he misses Miss Mini and she pines for him the whole time! Honestly, I miss those hunting trips more than anyone knows! At work there are a few that know I've spent a lot of money, cuz they always ask how my million dollar dog is!!! lol, but they will be the first to say she really takes care of her dog...now I have 2! Ah well, its worth all the sacrifices...most times!

| ![]() It's so annoying when my friends and family just said to me, "Why didn't you just adopt a mutt for $45? I don't need a guilt trip for not saving a dog by rehoming them. It was my choice to pay for a yorkie a.) because I wanted a baby, I wanted to be her ONLY mommy. b.) I don't have the experience I'd need with a dog from a shelter to resocialize it, it'd probably have problems with behavior and temper, unknown health problems, etc. My boyfriend and I got a kitten from the humane society and it died six days later. They failed to tell us she had feline leukemia. After that, I'm sorry, but I would rather get a purebred dog from a reputable breeder so I know what exactly what I am paying for.

| ![]() I agree,it is rude to ask someone how much their furbaby cost. They wouldnt ask how much giving birth costs. They wouldnt ask how much my husband paid for a piece of jewelry that was on my hand. Why is it ok to inquire what I paid for my baby? It is in very poor taste to put your nose into someone elses wallet. If someone is interested in making a purchase,I am happy to try to point them in the right direction. |

I did feel bad not rescuing a dog. A friend wanted to know did I "adopt" or "buy" Charlie and I knew what they were getting around to and their feelings about the issue. I simply said, "I got him from a family locally", which I did. He wasn't from a pet store or puppy mill. Sorry he wasn't adopted from a shelter either. | |
