Story behind your Yorkie(s) name? 1 Attachment(s) I think it's very interesting to see the backstory as to how you picked your pet's name...whether it was because it's cute, because it has meaning, or it kind of just picked itself :) Luma's name was supposed to be Bijou. It is french for "tiny jewel" and that about sums up a little girl yorkie! Unfortunately my boyfriend was already against the idea of a frou-frou dog and hated the name... :sfunslap: and so we thought about his interests. Videogames. Typical 20 year old guy. There's a cute little floating yellow star who is very loveable, and it's name is Luma. And so we picked Luma. It's still cute :DD I love it! |
I chose Violet for my first Yorkie, because it is a sweet little flower, and that is what she is. Laurel is actually named for a little town that my hubby and I visited, plus Violet and Laurel are both in the botanical theme. When we got Hardy, my hubby named him . He has never go to name any of our fluffs, so he got to name Hardy. Hardy's name is actually Sir Hardesty of Countrywood! |
Jackson came about because my mom & I had just walked Walk The Line - the movie about Johnny Cash. His song 'Jackson' was our favorite. 'I'm goin' to Jackson....." LOL. Well, when it came time to naming him, it was the one that stuck. I kept looking at his picture and saying other names, and none fit. Jackson is soooo him. Though it's becoming popular in baby names and creeping up with dog names too. Here I thought I was being all original. lol. Oh well. I can't imagine him being named anything else. Oh, also a big MJ fan, so it totally fits for us. |
I named my baby Juicy cause I was looking a cute kinda boos hie name to fit my lil diva...as a matter of fact....Diva was an option:D....but when I was talking to a friend at work she said why don't you name er after a brand....so I said a brand like what....like Juicy....Couture? Omg....it hit me....I love it....her name is Juicy. Plus I wanted a unique name for her....I think I got it.:2puppy: |
Yogi comes from my grandfather's nickname. I am picking up my female puppy at 10am tomorrow..Let the name picking begin :) |
Yes you did; Juicy is a unique kind of name. Well Razzle got his name, cause he is going to be an agility dog. Plus when I met that dear one, he was just zooming around the room, with his eyes so bright, his ears standing up; the name just fit. Then when it came time to register him, I thought (in the native Indian way), a name is real important, and I just don't want a Razzle scamp, I want a dog with discretion and judgement, so I named him" Sir Razzle Dazzle. So far I'm waiting for discretion and judgement' but he sure dazzles all in the ring, and most importantly in my eyes. |
:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: These names are all so cute and unique! I loved Teddy for a yorkie..but its so common now D: I always appreciated that my parents named me Carmen and not well..Ashley. Luma is cute and girly yet very unique..never heard of anyone calling their dog Luma. When I texted my parents with the name they thought I misspelled it...they told everyone I named her Luna :P |
We called our new yorkie "Howie" (short for Howard) because there is a Yorkshire Regiment (amalgmated with several other regiments now) called The Green Howards. It was funny 'cos the breeder put a green ribbon around his neck for i.d. when he was born not knowing we were planning on calling him after The Green Howards, and to us, that was the deciding factor !!! |
Since we adopted Tessie when she was 2 1/2 years old- we didn't get to name her. Her original mom's name was Cam- so her registered full name is actually "Cam's Little Contessa." She is our sweet little girl :) |
Laddy was named by the breeder and it fit him so we kept it....Kyra was named Katie when we got her but we love the reruns of the Reba show and our favorite person on it Kyra because she reminds us so much of our oldest grandaughter. Hence her name and it fits her quite well. |
My mom used to pick Lola up and sing "Her name was LOLA she was a SHOWGIRL!" The name kinda just stuck after that. |
I don't really remember how I came up with Riot's name, but I had it picked out about a year or more before I got him lol. I was talking to a co-worker a while back about a girl who used to work with us and she recently had a baby and names his Chaos. I said that's a good name for a dog but a terrible name for a person, and I just kind of decided my next dog would be Chaos, and now finally I'm getting the chance to use it! |
Great names! I love Riot and Chaos too. Well I named Joel after the Good Charlotte singer, and I named my guinea pig Benji which is the twin brother lol. But it's so annoying that everyone says Joel isnt a dog name and to top it off they they say its a girl name and pronounce it like you say Noel but with a J, but its supposed to sound like Jole. And my little half sister accidently calls him Jewel because she thinks hes a girl, poor Joel isnt going to feel manly now! Lol Arg! Its frustrating! |
Eddie was a rehome, and his name was Teddy, TJ for short. But my wife's ex was named TJ, and she didn't want a name that would remind her of him. She chose Eddie because because it rhymed with Teddy. Jack (RIP) was a rescue named Cuddles. He was 4 pounds and frail, and Cuddles wasn't macho enough for me. I changed to Jack Daniels because it sounded manly. I insisted on naming Jillie. My wife wanted to name her Bijou. ( If I'd known what Bijou meant I might have gone for it!). But we'd just loss Jack, and I wanted a tribute to him: Jill, ala Jack and Jill. My wife refused, and we were at a deadlock. Finally, she said if I would call her Jillian Bijou, she'd go for it. I agreed -- with my fingers crossed. I call her Jill when my wife isn't around. |
We called ours Harry......because he's Mr. Houdini :D There is nothing he can't escape from....would you believe he has even taught himself to open the kitchen door  He bounces up and down until his paw eventually pushes down on the handle and out he trots....very pleased with himself!! :D Oh, and I'm Sally....so my husband chose his name (as in the film?!!) Sally + Harry :aimeeyork x |
Shelby (my little princess) is a name that I just really liked. It is also a name of one of the many places that I drove through when i went to get her (more than 3 hours of driving). Seymour is a name that my DH picked out. I wanted to call him Simon, but hubby insisted that he didn't look like a Simon..... thus, Seymour! Seeger was being called "Scandel" when we got him at 15 weeks old. I didn't think such a sweet faced little dog should have such a "naughty" name. (of course, he has proved me wrong many times over with his abundance of energy & curious personality). .. Again, I suggested Simon..... but again, the name just didn't fit. He was named Seeger (you can 't call him Bob :p )..... not only does it fit him, but named after someone in the music world but spelled a little different (hubby is a musician/drummer ). |
George got his name because when my grandchildren were small I always said I was going to take them home and hug them and love them and call them George, it is from a Bugs Bunny cartoon with the abominable snowman. So when I told our oldest Granddaughter I was getting a puppy and what should I call him she said George..it was like DUH! what else would you call him ...lol :D |
I had no choice Our First Dog was named Marvin at the Humane Society..it fit so well we kept it. Then we found The little yorkie on the street...we named him FizGig from the movie Dark Crystal because when we found him he was a furball. Max was named at his other owners home and knew his name so we kept it...but I call himm Cutie Patootie Titus was another owner turn in to the resuce. His name was the name on his papers from the breeder. Thats what he has been called all along so we kept that too. |
We rescued Corky... So he came with the name.. "Corky Da Yorkie" Yep that is his name. |
Winnie When i asked my hubby what we should name our new puppy he said we should call him Mr Frumtickle WinnieWinks. Apparently something that small and cute has to have a very long and silly name. But when we chose Winnie she ended up being a girl, so i said we couldn't call her MR Frumtickle because thats a boys name so my husband then replied "Fine we'll call her Winnie TickleBottoms". From there we just call her Winnie, but her full name is actually Winnie TickleBottoms, which is extremely appropriate because she's always wagging her bottom around as if it tickles! :) Chantal N Winnie |
I liked the name Piper cause it sounds lively and energetic (to me) - that would have been a great name for my daughter, but am 13 years too late so the next blessed creature to arrive in our home was given the name Piper! |
Our first Yorkie we named Jasmine after the Disney Princess because that satisfied our girly daughter and our son thought we were naming her Jazz Man and he thought that was very cool. LOL Ultimately she was called Jazzy for most of her life...I really miss her. |
I've always planned on naming my dog Lady (you know Lady and the Tramp, my favorite movie growing up) but when I rescued Darla she was already 2 and she had her name already. So I decided to just change her name to Darling Darla. (Darling is the Mom in the movie) When she is getting lots of loving we call her our lil Darling and when I'm summoning her I call her Darla. She loves it. It totally fits her. |
I made a list of names I liked. I loved Terra for 2 reasons. The first is that Terra means earth which I think fits a Yorkie well :) The second reason is that ever since I was 12 I've been obsessed with Gone with the Wind and although spelled different, Terra was the name of the plantation Scarlett lived on. If I ever get a small Yorkie female (4 pounder) I plan to name her Pixie! |
Ha ha... The Texas longhorns!!! We have Bevo...(the mascot) Then Mack Brown (the coach) And Jaxon (Shipley.. A receiver) Then there's Bryleigh... She didn't get a longhorn name!! Lol Hook Em!!! |

Sadie is after my late mother. Her maiden name was Hawkins and her nickname was Sadie. Even my dad didn't know her "real" name till after they were engaged. Her registered name is Lane's Lady of Dogpatch. Beemer was named because his sire had a car name. We named him Beemer because I had a little BMW Z4. I still haven't filled out his final registration or come up with a registered name. After Beemer came along I kind of wished that we'd used something with Mercedes in it for Sadie. |
Who Done It Yes that is his name. When he was a pup I would turn my back and something was destoyed. I would have a living room covered in puppy pad snow and I would say who done it and he would come running so proudly with the evidence all over him bouncing and excited. So many other names were attempted but nothing worked he would only come to and respond to Who Done It, he done it. |
Cozy is short for Cosette from Les Miseribles plus she loved to cozy up to her loved ones. It also means "little warrior woman". Roxy was originally named Candy become Rock Candy because she is a rough and tumble girl. I shortened it to Roxy which means "Dawn"- She is always bright and full of herself. Zoey was Cozy's original name from the breeders. It means "Life and peace". She is very Zen. Lucy after I love Lucy- When she was a little puppy she would get very vocal when ever you found her doing something wrong and they she would start to whine as though she was doing a lot of explaining. It means "light" I was going to keep her brother who had a cleft plate but he passes away from complicates. She was our light from darkness. Buddy is a rescue. While driving home from rescuing him I passed an Air Buddy sign that said "Adopt a Buddy Today". It also means "Comrade" or "loyal companion". He is my shadow dog. He wants to be with you 24/7. Mika is Native American and means "Wise little raccoon" and "Beautiful" She would put kibble in her water bowl and then fish it out like a raccoon when I show her at the breeders. Tallulah is a rescue. Her name is also Native American and means "Leaping Water" and "Princess". She loved to investigate the dripping facet and would then jump in the air cooing away. She has a very bubbly personality. My previous Golden, Lucky's, AKC name was Sir Lucky Goldwin of Cold Springs. Goldwin means "Golden friend.". Lucky lived up to his name we were to lucky to have know this wise and gentle spirit. We were lucky to have him. |
