| Here is one for the long time Yorkie owners. I have a dog(Blackie) that since day one he goes swimming everyday in the pool. I have no way of keeping him out. But he can swim great he does two laps comes back jumps out and dries off. Sometimes he will sit at the top step of the pool and only be in 2-3 inches of water. His dad hates water other then drinking it. hates taking a bath. avoids the pool like the plague! it can be 125 degrees outside and everyone else is in the pool except him. His other son grumpy he will go in with some resistance but I think it's because he sees his brother(Blackie) jump in and play and be petted that he tries. but 3-4 seconds after getting in he wants out. I've had grumpy on my shoulders all calm and cool. I go in the pool and he isn't even touching the water and he wants out! Is this natural behavior for these dogs? I'm not used to small dogs at all. all my previous dogs were 90 lbs and above. |

| None of mine have ever been water dogs, but wanted to bump this for you They all have their own personalities... maybe some enjoy it while others are afraid, or just don't like it???

Donating YT 10K Club Member | I consider it normal. Some of mine love it and some don't. We don't push the ones which don't either...forcing them doesn't make them enjoy it any more actually the opposite is true.

| I bought the girls a small baby pool but they won't go in it. I put them in (it's only paw deep) and they jump out in a split second, but no matter how hard it's raining, they will go outside to potty.

| Just like people, yorkies are all different, too. Mine hates water, but she loves the way she feels after baths.

| Hahaha, I did the same for Zhoie got her a tiny pool and her reaction was the exact same. But in thunderstorm, she faithfully trucks right on out to do her business. LOL

| out of five only one has liked the water, we live on the lake and she runs down the steps by the dock and drops her ball in so she can swim after it. It's cute except for when I don't want her to go in and I am chasing after her yelling LOLA Stop. Even when we walk now, she still runs towards one of the areas where I let her go swimming, but in Feb in MI the lake is frozen so the poor little thing looks so confused. My parents next door neighbor has an above ground pool with a small deck. When visiting I could hear someone swimming laps, I saw the whole family in the yard playing baseball, so I wonder who's in the pool, then I see it's their golden swimming lap after lap, for almost an hour! I always wondered about dogs that swim in pools allot, if you use chlorine wouldn't that be bad for the dog, since they tend to swallow the water. LOL all I could think of was all that hair clogging up the filters, Goldens shed like crazy Last edited by DBlain; 02-09-2012 at 05:57 PM. |

| when I got sonic last yr in august he weighed 1 lb 15 oz just so yall know how small he is, I would let him out in the small fenced in back yard to do his duty, he would come in soaking wet I caught him getting in dog's water bowl to cool off, my mom's chihuahua water bowl.. so when I give him baths he is good, when I dry him off with a hair dryer he just lays down and enjoys it till he is dried. So your yorkie isn't the only one that likes water lol |

| I have a Labrador Retre - uh, I mean, Yorkshire Terrier. Jackson has always been a water boy. But I also always have encouraged him to try new things and be confident in what he does. Always associated it with positive things. Even with things such as jumping up on a log, or on my back, etc, I really like him to be as confident as he can be. He was not introduced to water until about... oh, 7 months old, I think? I got him in December and pool opened in May. He did not begin diving in until his 2nd summer where I bought him a lifejacket. I've just always made it a fun thing I think it's a natural thing for him, for the most part... but I do think one can be trained to enjoy it. I dogsat for a boy who just recently was introduced to an indoor swimming pool and hated it the first visit and is now beginning to see how fun it can be!

| Max is the same way. He hates being in water, but he will happily go walking in the pouring rain. What a little nut.

| Cozy and Roxy boogie board in pools. They will swim and get back onto the board if they want too. Zoey would rather sunbath but will swim when very hot. Lucy generally won't touch water but can swim. I just got Buddy in Dec. so I have no idea about him.

| A couple of mine hate water except to drink....some love to go in the 2 ring baby pool I bought them to swim in, they all love to play on the Slip-n-slide, and 3 of my tiny little babies love to play in any water bowl they come across! Hailee will even take her ball and drop it in the water bowl and then splash around like an otter! |
