| Newbie! Hi there I am currently a border collie owner but have fallen head over heels for Yorkies, I met a fair few on walks in my time and each time I just found they bought a smile to my face, I desperately look forward to the day I can have a cuddly lapdog. As my collie slowly surrenders to arthritis I find I am really missing a active energetic dog and every Yorkie owner I have met has said how they love attention and playing. I am planning on making a Yorkie box, where I will buy items over time for the Yorkie so when the day comes I will have everything I need, I would love suggestions for the box and stories pretty much anything regarding this darling dogs. |

| We use mostly baby items for our two girls. They can be so reasonable second hand, the newborn clothes fit well as t-shirts, I find the cloth toys so well made and blankets have become an obsession! |

| The metal combs are my favorite and last forever and you will need a pair of small scissors for grooming or for cutting off a cling

| Welcome to YT!!! I am sorry to hear that your collie has arthritis, I too have an older dog with the same problem. You are going to LOVE having a Yorkie. I had no idea just how great they were until Chloe became a part of my life. Now she has me wrapped around her little paw. You are going to have SO much fun buying all of the items that your future furbaby will need. Have you done much research into the breed? If not I would say that would be number 1 on my to do list. These amazing little ones have some VERY specific needs, for example they are prone to hypoglycemia when young, they do grow out of it but it can be fatal if untreated. Sounds scary but if handled properly it is very simple to manage (nutri-cal for example). The second thing and this one is very important too is to ensure that you get your new baby from a reputable breeder. I have read SO many sad stories from caring people who bought a yorkie only to discover that the breeder they thought was good turned out to be awful and they were left trying to care for a sickly pup. LOL Your going to think I am trying to terrify you I had NO problems when I brought the furry little love of my life home. I was well informed and Chloe came from a well respected breeder. It made a huge difference, such as the one day when Chloe did have a hypoglycemic episode, I knew what to do and within no time she was be bopping around and getting into trouble again I can tell that you are going to be a WONDERFUL Mom to a lucky little yorkie, the fact that you dont have one yet but are here to learn is AWESOME!!!!! I hope that you love YT as much as I do and that when you do bring "baby" home that you will take some pictures. I love to awwww over peoples puppy pictures " Just saw your last post and the fact that you are aware of the possible issue with collars is just... well ... great, I love it when future owners really take the time to research!!!!

| I ordered Yorkies for dummies and have general dog care books but I always get species specific to. I read there is a local community center that does dog grooming so gonna see if I can do that but if I am not confident I would happily pay for doggy hair cuts dont need to pay for myself as I am bald as a coot thanks to medical problems. I was hoping to rehome if I could I was going to watch the pound and local rescues and I dont go on holidays so I put away spare money each month into savings for vet bills I have been burned by pet insurance in the past and wont go for it again. I love walking but I have read that some yorkies can have problems with distance so would two smaller walks be better than one big one in the morning? Also the bows....I am sorry but not a fan can I just trim the hair back or do they really need bows? I intend to keep the little one short haired in summer and more medium in winter. I am gonna get to wilkinsons whilst the sales on and get a puppy pen and some toys. I will make sure to keep Nutra-cal in the house and I I have read up about the blood sugar issue, the line about having to hand feed in some cases makes me kinda smile.
