I am sorry to hear that your collie has arthritis, I too have an older dog with the same problem.
You are going to LOVE having a Yorkie. I had no idea just how great they were until Chloe became a part of my life. Now she has me wrapped around her little paw. You are going to have SO much fun buying all of the items that your future furbaby will need.
Have you done much research into the breed? If not I would say that would be number 1 on my to do list. These amazing little ones have some VERY specific needs, for example they are prone to hypoglycemia when young, they do grow out of it but it can be fatal if untreated. Sounds scary but if handled properly it is very simple to manage (nutri-cal for example).
The second thing and this one is very important too is to ensure that you get your new baby from a reputable breeder. I have read SO many sad stories from caring people who bought a yorkie only to discover that the breeder they thought was good turned out to be awful and they were left trying to care for a sickly pup.

I had NO problems when I brought the furry little love of my life home. I was well informed and Chloe came from a well respected breeder. It made a huge difference, such as the one day when Chloe did have a hypoglycemic episode, I knew what to do and within no time she was be bopping around and getting into trouble again
I can tell that you are going to be a WONDERFUL Mom to a lucky little yorkie, the fact that you dont have one yet but are here to learn is AWESOME!!!!! I hope that you love YT as much as I do and that when you do bring "baby" home that you will take some pictures. I love to awwww over peoples puppy pictures "
