Buffalo NY, Yorkie Ear help!! My Miss Mia and her sister Bella (lovingly homed by dear friend) are 11 weeks old now. Appears that their ears are trying to go up. Got so caught up with all the vet (heart problems) we neglected this, I don't really care if they go up but at the same time would love t see them up! I didn't have this problem with Ms. Mini, her ears went right up! I am wondering if: 1. Anyone knows anywhere in Buffalo NY (surrounding suburbs) that we can take them to have them do their ears? (shave and tape) for us?. 2. Is this uncomfortable for them or painful? 3. Is it too late? Thanks for any input! Lynn Last edited by lynzy420; 01-24-2012 at 07:47 AM. Reason: spelling!

you should be able to tape them yourself, however some ears will never stand straight. My advice would be to look in the breeders section and the showing sections, show breeders tape their pups ears a lot so you might get some good tips there, or post your question, "How to tape a pups ears" My sister did have success taping her dogs ears and she did it herself, and LOL she knows very little about yorkie care. Good luck also Try googling How to tape a yorkies ears, I can't believe how many how to videos are on line now a days Last edited by DBlain; 01-24-2012 at 08:04 AM.

Its the shaving part, I can't do! Thanks for your reply and so right about the how to videos! They all say to shave their ears. I have a peanut shaver and I did shave some of the hair I just am to apprehensive to go the distance, ears are so tiny! Couple of weeks ago I nicked Miss Minis ear, dear lord she let out a yelp and blood was flying as she shook her head, I thought I was gonna have a heart attack! Turns out it was a small tiny nick.. She forgave me and I promised I would never do it again!

how much hair is on her ears? I can't believe at her age that there would be that much to keep them from standing up. Take her to a groomer that knows how to tip and trim a yorkies ears and let them do it for you. Make sure they know the proper way to do a yorkies ear, find a groomer that will let you wait. I often have the ears, paws, and nails done while I wait and do the rest myself. I am obsessed with a good ear trim and often do it myself, but last time, while I was going for the perfect point I also nicked Lola's ear and took a small divit out of it, I did not realize I did it because she did not flinch which suprised me. I did this years ago to another yorkie and the piece never grew back in, so I hope the same does not happen to Lola. Some say teething will make some dogs flop.
