How awful! How would those people like to be locked in a dark, stuffy trunk? Idiots!

Good for the firefighters. That couple seem overly concerned with what they paid for their dogs. The dogs shouldnt have been left in the car led alone the trunk. Im glad they are facing charges and fines. Your right they are idiots

Good for the firefighters! These people? put the dogs in the trunk because they didn't want their $1,000 dogs stolen-so how much is a dead $1,000 dog worth? So stupid-I hope they didn't put their kids or grandma in the trunk to keep them safe too when they didn't want to take them with them.

Oh good God!! What the heck goes through people minds??!! If they couldn't take the dog in the place they went to eat, then they should have left the dogs at home. Wonder how they'd like to be stuffed in a trunk??!!

I read the story on Dogster and then read the comments posted ... everyone thinks the way we do ... these pups should be taken away and the fools locked up. I too think that the firefighters were right in their actions. It's also not the first report I've seen of dogs being locked in a car trunk and sadly it probably won't be the last.

I wonder what they will tell the car insurance company - I hope they have a hefty deductible! :D

Hi, I am an idiot who locked my animals in the trunk of my car. Now it is damaged by the Firefighters so I need to file a claim. :p Sad think is, it will be covered.

They didnt just drive from Pottsboro to Dallas for a birthday lunch.
They were in Dallas all weekend with the dogs. Read all the reports:
They checked out of their hotel saturday mid morning and was on their
way to the next hotel and stop for a quick bite to eat meeting
friends, one of which was a police officer himself. He saw the seat
down and the DPD officers that were there on the scene know this! They
know the fire dept messed up- it was not the police that did this.
Read ALL the articles- it was the fire dept. But still, all in all the
DPD continued to make it worse. The Shipmans were on their way to
their next hotel thus having the dogs with them still spending their
money in our city. I dont see anything wrong with what they did on a
55 degree cloudy day. Ask the parking lot attendant when they left the
lot. You know he remembers that girls tons of blonde curls.

Furthermore the city is making the case for the Shipmans by claiming
the dogs were locked in the trunk, when in fact they were not.
REGARDLESS, The fact the city is claiming they were in the truck is
proving they could have and should have broken a window out to
"rescue" the dogs much faster and safer. Since they say the dogs were
locked in the trunk then their full of u know what for saying they
couldnt break a window for fear the glass would or could hurt the
dogs. Mmmmmm waaaaait a minute Mr Fireman YOU said the dogs were in
the trunk so how is it that they could get hurt with glass being broke
IF they werent in the car? Proves their lying trying to cover their
butts! They didn't see the dogs is what the witnesses and the DFD are
saying.... Their Yorkies are small- how do they know they werent under
the seats?

Then as if everything they did wasnt stupid enough they
continued to use 2 police cars and 4 officers to guard the car they
destroyed for over another hour and a half when the couple left the
parking lot "because there were unsecure valuables in the car" But yet
couldnt wait for them in the very beginning for a few? OR do some real
police work to find them? Besides, How is it that when they (shipmans)
left the dogs in their car for 20-30 minutes it was illegal and Cruel
but the city takes them and puts them in their car for an hour and a
half while they interrogate the man and its not illegal or cruel!!!

Texas does not have a law against leaving pets in your car nor does the city of dallas have an
ordnance against it. The states animal cruelty law says severe and
extreme hot and humid temps or severe extreme or freezing temps or
emanate danger. 55 degree cloudy day are none of these. SO since the
DFD destroyed this car rescuing these dogs since DFD believed they
were in such severe and emanate danger then DFD took both dogs to be
seen by a vet right away to be checked out, right? Just to make sure
they were ok since they were in such danger right??? RIGHT? I want to
read that vet examination of them? Wait, you mean they didnt do that?
They just took these poor abused dogs put them in their car for an
hour and a half then drove them to the shelter and just threw them in
cages??? WHAT????!!!!! Come on people!!! Are you serious? Then give
them back the very next day with no questions asked! PLEASE DALLAS!

Pay these people what their estimate says its going to cost to fix
before they get an attorney sue for more AND WIN!!! Any scenario the
city tries to spin it the Shipmans are going to win. They have a
police officer as a witness and their vet is backing them 100%!

Of course everyone is going to side with the fact they're abusers. Y'all think they were locked in the trunk- your reading articles posted with half truths in them. The seats were folded down giving them access to the back of the car and the trunk area and they were blocked from the front of the car. There people did nothing wrong. For god sakes look at the pictures of those two dogs and the news footage of how they interact with their owners. The fact they paid so much for them proves how much they love them. Their dogs are more privileged than most kids in my classroom. My dad works for the city and knows all the details and REAL facts here people!

Yep yep gonna be covered and by the city. Why should they have to pay for the DFD destroying their new car like that when it was completely unnecessary. Why should their insurance pay? Why not bust a window out in 30 seconds to rescue dogs from their naps... then to shred metal and tin to get in a trunk of a brand new car for any reason??? WRONG WRONG WRONG! I can post pics of real abused animals on here if y'all like to see that!

If the Shipmans were concerned about the dogs being seen in the car, why would they open the backseat to the trunk? That doesn't make sense. They would just leave them in the cabin of the car, which I don't approve of either.

The firemen would not have broken a window to get to the dogs in the trunk because not all cars have access to the trunk through the backseat. My car does, but none of the other cars in my family do.

I doubt the dogs were hiding under seats. Even for a small dog (and the Shipman yorkies are not tinies), there isn't much room under seats.

Anywho, funny story, I live in Michigan and our summers get no where near as hot as Texas. But, I was walking into a Linens and Things when I saw a little terrier in a car with the windows cracked about...eh maybe 6 inches. The car was black, and scalding to the touch, so I grabbed a rock, aimed at the window and was about to throw when the owner came running out. We had a screaming match in the parking lot. Police were called and the store pressed charges, the dogs had been locked in there for over and hour on a 94 degree day.

I guess my point is, I don't care what state you're in, I don't care how hot it is. In fact, I don't care how long you plan on be out of the car whether it's 5 or 15 minutes. No living creature, animal or human should be left so any amount of time in a car. It's inhumane and mean. If you can't have the dogs there, then don't go. Simple as that.

My dh is in the FDNY and I asked him what they would do. They would either pry the trunk open to rescue the dogs or pry the side door open and try and gain entry through the rear seats.

Good job firefighters!! Even with all the "facts".....no animal should be left inside a car with all the windows shut while the owner is busy somewhere.

and I don't believe that the seats were left down .... why put the dogs in the trunk just to leave the seats down ... anyone could see them then...so their argument of safety would not fit.

Maybe you don't have kids....and maybe you're too young to remember a time when they didn't have pay-at-the-pump gas stations?

But there was many a time when I left my kids &/or pup in the car to pay for gas. Admittedly, I waited for a pump right up front, cracked windows & locked doors and had my eyes on the vehicle the entire time that it took to pay (and had no problem, if there was a line, asking to cut in to pay, which back in the day consisted of handing over a $20 and saying "20 on pump 3"..and I was outta there).

Thankfully, Michigan law protects parents when doing this.

So were you there? Was your Dad there? Do you have the pictures to prove the seat was open? . If they were moving from Hotel to Hotel were their suitcases in the trunk with the dogs in case someone wanted to steal their luggage? So the couple and the police officer heard no sirens, no commotion in the restaurant as the fire truck arrived, no loud screeching noise as they pried the trunk open. And during the whole lunch they never went out to check on their investment and make sure the dogs did not need air, water, to pee etc. Just wondering.

So I guess the fact that the owner is being charged with animal cruelty due to the fact that he left his pups in the car won't be taken into consideration??!!

They only way they will win is if the City decides that it is not worth the lawyers fees to fight over such a trivial amount...that is why people sue the City and win, even if they are wrong.

BTW .... exactly what is your investment towards this story or these people. Seems kinda funny that you're new here and defending these people so vehemently.

I think people would be more open to listening to you if you presented yourself without so much...emotion. If you were calm, collected, and wrote out the behind-the-scene facts more eloquently, it would be better.

And if you joined prior to the post as well. It looks like you've only joined BECAUSE of this. I'm not pointing fingers, just making a point.
