Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | ![]() Hey guys! Well Katie Scarlett's spay surgery is this coming Monday. I am already a bit nervous! I know in my heart she is in good hands, but still on edge. I just don't know how I am going to make it Monday without her here. They said if all goes well she will be able to come home that evening. I drop her off at 8 Monday morning. She is going to be microchipped that day as well. How did you guys pass the time when your babies went in for there spay/neuter? Also, question for you guys...while we were in Alabama, I noticed Katie Scarlett was losing her baby teeth. I found 3 of them on the floor. Is it normal for them to lose them so fast? Also, when I was brushing her teeth the other day, I noticed on the top, in the front, it looks like one of the baby teeth is still there and an adult tooth is pushing it's way in front of it. Should I ask them to take a look at this while she is in for her surgery? This is my first Yorkie, so new to all of this. Thanks for any help you can give me!

| ![]() Both of my girls' spay days seemed VERY long, especially until I got the phone call that all was well and the time I could come for them. Try to stay busy and do your nails or something ![]() Yes, definitely ask about the retained baby teeth. They can be removed while she's under. It's best to get them out so that they don't cause any decay in the new adult teeth (food gets stuck in between, etc.) It's hard to believe that KS is already old enough to be spayed, time sure does fly!!!

| ![]() Aw poor baby, I will be thinking good thoughts and sending prayers on Monday! I am sure she will do just fine! When Peanut was neutered, he was a basket case! Man for like 3 days after!! You never know how they are going to react after something like that. I would def take care of the puppy teeth! Also while she’s under have them cut her nails nice and short!! While Peanut was neutered I was at work trying to get myself busy! Just keep your mind busy that day and you will be fine!

| ![]() I said a prayer for your baby. I drank about 5 pots of coffee and went shopping for presents for Belle. I asked them to call me immediately after it was done. They knew how worried I was and spayed Belle first that morning. I also had the laparoscopic spay done. It costs a little bit more, and was definitely worth it. The incision was very tiny. When we picked her up that afternoon, one would never know she was operated on that morning. She was full of energy and spunk!

| ![]() Definitely tell them about her baby tooth...they will remove it while she is under. Keep yourself busy...I went shopping with a friend and out to lunch with her too. It is going to be a long stressful day, but I had my vet call me as soon as Trixie was awake so I knew she was okay. My vet keeps them overnight so I had to wait 24 hours to pick her up...it was hard. You will get through this. Trixie was very sore for the first few days and was not herself until about a week later. Hugs to you both and prayers for Katie Scarlett!

| ![]() How old is KS? When Callie was under for her spay they also pulled any remaining baby teeth. I will keep her in my prayers. Try to remember vets do this all the time. Oh and make sure you get the before spay blood work.

| ![]() Awww.... Katie Scarlett is going to be just fine. ![]() I had Riley neutered at exactly 6-months old. I had taken the day off and it was one looooooooooong day. The Vet called shortly after she finished... probably around 11a.m. but I wasn't able to pick him up until 4:30p.m. I was relieved to hear everything went well, but then it was an even looooonger afternoon. I went and met some friends for lunch and then just came back home and tried to keep busy. Riley was a teeny bit drowsy that night but was back to his normal self the next day. It was sooo hard to keep him from running/jumping. The vet did not pull his retained baby teeth and they never came out. I was a bit upset because just 3-months later he had to go under, again so she could pull the 2 top baby canines. ![]() I asked why she hadn't done it during the neuter and she said the adult teeth had not started to come in yet and she was hoping they would just fall out.... Well, Another $400 later and him having to go under, again, adn they were out. ![]() I have learned since that a lot of people wait until around 8 months to spay or neuter so the adult teeth have come through and if any baby teeth need pulled they are pulled. I dont' know... I just think my vet should have perhaps suggested to me to wait a couple more months. I just hated the fact that Riley had to go under Again! ![]() |

| ![]() If she hasn't finished teething, I would recommend waiting until she has finished so they can remove any retained baby teeth at the same time as her spay. You want to avoid putting her under anesthesia again. If you are planning to go ahead with the spay, we'll keep little KS in our thoughts.
