Donating YT 500 Club Member | Would you consider this.... ...preserving your pet by freeze drying? Last night I was watching a show on Animal Planet - American Stuffers. It's about a taxidermist that preserves people's pets by freeze drying. In this episode he preserved a chihuahua and a yorkie. The pet owners were overcome with emotion when they picked up their preserved pets. The dogs looked just like little stuffed toys laying on their beds. At first I felt a little creepy about the whole idea of preserving a pet this way, and still don't know if I would/could ever but, it got me to thinking. I wondered if others would have this done, or is it just not for you? I've included a link but.......Please don't anyone watch if you think this may upset you as the taxidermist is working on people's pets....it can be graphic! | Oh my ...noooooo! I wouldn't do that. I would rather have pictures and memories. I read somewhere people we're cloning their pets . I think that is a little out there for me too. I just hope I have many many years before I have to deal with anything like that!

| I just watched that show! I recorded it!! I told DH last night that I would want to stuff Pnut, he wasn't too into it. I said I am either going to creamate or stuff! If I were going to creamate him I would want a private one, but how do you really know that your dog is the only one in the box? You really dont.. Either way I think its a hard choice, and I hope I dont have to make it soon!

| No, I couldn't do it. When I was a very little girl I told my parents I would have them stuffed so I could always sit on the couch and watch tv with them . Obviously I didn't do it

| Eh I don't think i'd do that. It'd creep me out. I want to remember him running around and being silly and funny, not staring at me all stiff on the table. I feel I would probably cremate and keep him on my nightstand to know that he is always there with me, watching over me as I sleep at night.

| I know its kind of a creepy thing but I would do it. It would have more meaning to me than ashes in a urn. I can see why other people would not though

I shudder at the thought you wouldn't get only your dog's cremains.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Ashes in an urn would tend to make me feel sad, whereas I would hope seeing them laying in one of their favorite beds would at least give me a more peaceful feeling.

| Omgosh! One of my most vivid memories is stopping by my friend's Aunt's house when we were done shopping at the mall near her and there was this lil cat curled up in a sleeping pose, right in the center of the top of her fireplace mantel...and it turns out it was her Aunt's dead cat...eewww.... The strangest part was when she demonstrated how she dusts her to keep her looking good

| I would rather have pictures and memories. For me, I would be sad having their lifeless bodies in front of me.

| I don't think it would be for me either; though I can see the reasoning behind why people do it.
