Did i do the right thing? Hey guys, happy new year to you all! So, i need your opinions. Last night we were celebrating new year and my mother accidentally spilt her alcoholic drink over Harri. He was covered in this horrible sticky stuff, and i insisted i had to go and wash it out while everyone else said it would be fine to wash out in the morning. I took him upstairs and gave him a quick wash (at 1am!) but i was just wondering what you would have done? Everyone said i was overreacting, but you can't just leave that horrible mess in his fur!! I was worried it would matt his fur! So i'd just like to know what you would have done? I hope i wasn't being an paranoid mummy, but i couldn't leave him in that state!! Thanks! :D |
I would have done the same thing,,I don't see it as over reacting at all... |
I would have done the same as you did, for many reasons. :) |

I would have done the same as you :) i bet everyone there would have washed their hair had she spilled it on them..;) |
:) i would have put poppy straight in the bath ;) im sure we wouldnt want sticky drink all over us , luv jill n poppy xx :aimeeyork |
I would do the same....I would take Bella and wash her up! :) |
Aw thank you guys for the support! I said to them, he's a 5 month old puppy, you wouldn't spill drink on a 5 month old baby and not clean him up!! But im glad to know you all agree, i knew fellow yorkie mummies would have done the same thing :D Thank you! |
We're all in agreement - I would have done the same! |
Same here...not only the mess of a sticky drink, I would have been afraid of the alcohol if he licked it or it could even have went into his skin. |
You were not over reacting. You did the right thing. I would have done the same thing. If you spill wine on a shirt , then you rinse it out immediately. So why not a living creature. Your pet could have licked some of the drink that spilt on its coat. Dont think twice about what you did. Sometimes when people drink or get embarassed they don't know how to react or what to say. Just ignore those comments or reactions. |
I would have done the same thing as you and all the others! |
I concur with everyone else. You did the right thing.:) Happy New Year to you and Harri!:) |
I would deff have washed out immediately as alcohol is Toxic to dogs if ingested. |
absolutely the right thing! he /she would have got sick because of trying to clean it off himself:thumbup: |
:thumbup:Absolute you did! The thought of something sweet all over them, the temptation to lick, the dust and dirt they would attract, plus laying down on bedding, spreading the mess. It always surprises me how other people view your "being a responsible pet owner" as over-the-top. Again, good for you. |
Thank you all for your support! I knew in my heart it was the right thing to do :) I'd rather be seen as being over the top than be lazy and possibly endanger Harri's health! |

I don't think it was an overreaction. There's no way I would sleep with gum in my hair, or alcohol in this case, so why would I expect my dog(s) to? |
I am in agreement with the rest - you did the right thing. I have done the very same with my little guy when he's gotten into a mess or has something sticking to this mustache or beard. We have to keep our babies clean! Good job and Happy New Year to you and your little one! |

Right there with you. I would have bathed mine. |
I would have done the same thing too. None of them would have waited till morning to wash themselves off. Who wants the sticky all over them... not to mention the alcohol. Roxy had a bad reaction to the alcohol in Frontline (only a partial dose), no way I would risk another reaction to a drink. You did good! |
i can't believe they actually even wanted you to wait until the morning to wash him off, it was underreacting of them, he could have gotten sick, matted, felt gross, ruined furniture, what if while trying to clean it off himself he got some in his eyes, rather be safe then sorry, i would have 100% done the same thing:) |
First of all I would never let that horrible stuff around my dog and second I would have done the same thing. I would not want that junk messing up my dogs show coat. |
I would have washed him immediately too. |
me too. You did right! |
