| when do they start using stairs? Hi just wondering if my yorkie will ever be able to go up the stairs?, shes sooo tiny 1 stair is double the size of her, right now i don't have to worry about her going up the stairs and they act as a baby gate lol. she should only grow to be about 4 pds, will i always have to carry her up the stairs? or can your 4pd yorkie go up and down steps?... my sheltie dog knew how to do steps from the time he was a baby but yorkies are so much smaller!lol! |

| My Nigel is 4.4 pounds and is about 5 months old. He is using stairs like a pro. He uses them to get on furniture and upstairs to see my son.

| When Bailey was a baby, she had some trouble with those evil stairs! She was tiny too, but we had some bad accidents with stairs... She was going outside when she was first learning to use the stairs. We have french doors from our kitchen to the screened in porch, then a regular outside porch, more stair, GRASS! So she was going out the kitchen door(one step) and she had her body half in half out. So then she went ahead and made the attempt to go out.... but she got scared with the door closing behind her and backed up and her leg got caught in the door... she went "EEEKKKK!" She was crying like a little baby! Poor Bailey, $100 later and a trip to the ER, she was ok! So in my little story, don't try and rush the stair thing. They will learn eventually, they are so smart. I would feel safer carying anyways, they are so fragile and could easily break a bone... especially when young. Merry Christmas!! |

YT 1000 Club Member | Both of mine started using the Stairs immediately (at 12 weeks old). However, it took them another week, to actually get to the top on their own.

| Kiko learned how to go upstairs a couple of weeks after we got her, so she was around 14 weeks (and maybe 3 lbs.). She will go down any stairs outside, but for some reason won't go down the ones inside the house. She has never fallen or had any sort of accident on the stairs, she just won't go, just one of her quirks I suppose. |

| Lexie learned to go up stairs at about 4 months and weighed about 4lbs, but couldn't go down the stairs till much later. So all day she'd run up then we'd hear the "come get me!" bark and would have to carry her down lol. That went on for a while till I sat down and clicker trained her to come down, she was so proud of herself she kept running up and down super fast it was hilarious. |

| Like Lexie, my 4lb baby girl, 4 months started going up but now uses the stairs any time. She will jump off our bed to go downstairs to potty in the pad and come up again in the middle of the night. Wish we could now get her to use the cat flap, like our 5lb baby boy |
