First Post, excited about new mixed breed puppy (Morkie)
 

Been stalking this forum for awhile to gain information regarding yorkies since my new baby's dad is a Yorkie, her mom is a maltese this is a whoops breeding and I am paying less then any local humane society (the girl adopted the mom pregnant from a breeder that didn't want her anymore and did not want to deal with an unwanted litter). She is the only blonde in her litter (2 sisters tan, 2 tri color boy and girl) and she is currently 6 weeks old we do not have her yet, but I may get her way too young because of the girl who has her mom wants them gone before christmas, yes I know the bad I have rescued and fostered, I have also spoke to my vet. I am most likely picking her up on friday, she has a appt with my vet sat. morning ( he goes out of town till jan 3rd and it was important to me that he sees her first. I am very scared of getting her so young but i also have a maltese breeder on speed dial that said she would help me. We are prepped with belongings for her, vet appt. dietary needs, playpen ect.
Regardless of her beginning she will be loved and worshiped like the diva I am sure she will become.

I also have 2 purebred English Mastiffs 4 yr old akc brat, and the 10 year old a rescue. They are very used to toy dog because we puppy sit family dogs, 1 was a 8 lb chihuahua ( zoomer passed), 1 a 7lb papion that they have been around since he was 2 lbs and a shih tzu rescue that we fostered when he was 3 lbs till 9 lbs.

Question regarding her nose; was wondering about her nose it is lighter then her brother and sisters ( theirs are black) hers is more liver but darkening. I know some yorkie genes carry this trait but can not find a maltese gene that would allow this. I know her mom is akc maltese.

Such a cute baby! Just a reminder... it is COLD so be sure to keep her warm,she is very young. If you do not already have some you might want to get Nutracal or Karo syrup just incase her bloodsugar starts to drop from the stress of leaving mommy. Also be sure you know where and have the number of your local doggie ER incase there is a problem in the first few days,sense your vet is going out of town.

Thank you, nutracal check, karo check plus some plain yogurt I was told. As far as vet, he has a backup vet plus I have 2 24 ur hospitals.

Still nervous, even though I keep double checking everything, she is gaining weight and doing great right now.

Any opinions on puppy grass, our winters are nasty here and my mother in law love hers for her papion.

Hi and welcome to Yorkietalk. That's so young to pick her up, I know that people who get them before 12 weeks complain about housebreaking and biting more. A good mama will start the beginnings of housebreaking with a puppy and she will also teach bite inhibition. Do they even have teeth at that age? Too bad the foster mother gave up so early, a few weeks could even make a difference. I wonder if your dogs will be able to socialize regarding biting inhibition. Anyways, I wish you the best of luck and I pray all of them will find great homes.

Worried about Potty training but I have raised orphaned puppies before and that is how I am viewing her. I have also fostered and trained puppy mill rescues. Bite inhibition my guys can help with but I have had to teach it many times before. As for teeth; yes but not for that long. She will need to be fed gruel and weaned onto hard food. I am very scared for the other babies, because I am not sure if the other family's understand the effort these pups will take. She will be worth the lack of sleep and effort I am sure.

I know some states have laws about how young a puppy can be sold. Does anyone know the law for Ohio?

Unfortunately Ohio has zero protection laws, one of the reasons for all of the puppy mills; some of which even advertise as rescues.

Is someone going to be available during the day so that she can be kept on frequent feedings and watched for hypoglycemia? I am a little concerned this person is not keeping them at least until 8 to 10 weeks (really it should be at least 12). They are not even on kibble yet. I'm sure since you have fostered before you are also concerned about all of this. I love mastiffs; have a friend w a beautiful girl, but I have to admit I am also concerned about such large dogs w such a tiny pup. Unintentional accidents can happen to the best of ppl. Hate to sound like a mother hen, but I hope you are there during the day providing 24 hour supervision. Sounds like you will have your hands full for Christmas this year. :)

Maybe you could offer to foster the other puppies until they are older and more prepared to go home. This worries me so much. I will pray for the best for your puppy and the others as well!!! Keep us posted please.

All of your concerns are the same as mine. I am an at home mom that does web design from home. As for the larger dogs I would worry more about her getting under my husbands feet. They are so gentle and nervous of harming a small dog that they will only lay down when in the same room. She also has a playpen for the living room and for the holiday travel. I understand she will be attached to me the same as when my daughters were newborn. I do understand your concern with my big boys but for her it is much safer than a 35 pound cocker that likes to run, jump and may play rough. Due to their size they have extremely good house manners and they do understand their size. Now the backyard is a different topic and even my 11 year old daughter does not play I'm the yard with them, which she will not be. It is the one place the can get rough; for 5 mins. Lol they are mastiffs.
I would not bring her into my house if I believed she could be in any danger.

If you are talking about the fake grass, pup grass, I have what I think is called the mini pup grass. It has a tray that you put a pee pad in it or newpaper and then the grass mat that goes on top. My 6 month old pup uses it and took to it very easily. I wanted him to be able to have a place to go for this winter in case we get lots of snow. I think it is great.

A few years back, people used to rehome puppies at 6-8 weeks, so is she is healthy and you stay on top of things, I'm sure she will be fine. My son has a Morkie and loves her like no other. She's a very good little dog. We have 2 Yorkies and 1 Maltese and they are all good dogs. I am sure she will be a good dog for you. No doubt she will be loved and spoiled!
