I have offered to foster the litter. The answer is always no. I am very concerned about the other babies. I am going into this with eyes wide open, I know it will be very hard and tiring but she is worth it.

Thanks for the reply about puppy grass that is what I was looking at, with our bad winters I think it looks like the best option.

Any opinions on Bailey vs Peyton for a name? Also the nose thing is very odd to me she is the only one with this coloring.

If any one else has a yorkie/maltese that has similar coloring when a baby, I would love to see some more grown up pics.

I like both names, but since he's so light maybe you could name him Bailey after Baileys Irish Cream! :p It's yummy!

sounds like you know what you are doing so i just wanted to wish you lots of luck and blessings bringing the little dear home and loving her. too bad you can't take em' all in and good luck with the gentle giants. my friend has two douge de bourdoux (spelling) and they are amazing with her array of boston terriers, chinese cresteds, silky terriers, and other small breeds she's rescued. they really are amazing dogs despite they are big but soo soo gentle with babies.

I'm glad you are a work at home mom. You would be surprised some ppl come on w a new pup, younger than 8-9 wks, and work a 12 hour day and the dog is home alone. I had hoped w your fostering background that was not the case but had to ask. Also, we recently had a member who I think the world of whose child accidently stepped on a small dog. With the best of intentions and the most wonderful good-hearted ppl, accidents can happen. I wish you well. You will be one busy lady this Christmas season with your daughter this new fur-newborn! You will have to post pics - as you can probably tell, we love pics.

All of your concerns are the same as mine. I am an at home mom that does web design from home. As for the larger dogs I would worry more about her getting under my husbands feet. They are so gentle and nervous of harming a small dog that they will only lay down when in the same room. She also has a playpen for the living room and for the holiday travel. I understand she will be attached to me the same as when my daughters were newborn. I do understand your concern with my big boys but for her it is much safer than a 35 pound cocker that likes to run, jump and may play rough. Due to their size they have extremely good house manners and they do understand their size. Now the backyard is a different topic and even my 11 year old daughter does not play I'm the yard with them, which she will not be. It is the one place the can get rough; for 5 mins. Lol they are mastiffs.
I would not bring her into my house if I believed she could be in any danger.

Congrat on your new baby:) I have brought home a kitten that was less then 3 wks old (her mommy passed away) so I know how scary it can be but it sounds like you are prepared:) I use potty pads when its cold and snowy and it seems to work out fine for us. I know yorkies noses are so pose to be black but not sure about the other breed. I'm sure I'll be crucified for sayng this but I believe that 8 weeks old is an appropriate age to leave momma. At 8 weeks, the puppy will start bonding either with dogs or humans and personally I want my babies to bond with me:) Sorry but I have to disagree with a few people~She should have all (or most) of her teeth by 6 weeks of age, and they should have been started on food by now. I know some people will start feeding mush at 3-4 weeks and as they get teeth, transition them from mush to kibble. I have a litter that will be 7 weeks old tomorrow and I started them on mush at 5 weeks and haven't' softened their kibble in over a week.

Adorable!!!!! It has been a long time since I have had a puppy but never one that young. Sounds like you are experienced and prepared. Best Wishes and I can't wait to see pictures as she grows.

Actually most vets believe that they are old enough to go at 6 to 8wks...the same with puppy shots starting at 6 wks...If i never learn another thing here

I have learned not to give shots this early to small yorkies, i believe some vets lump them all together no matter what size they are, and i believe smaller breeds need different guidelines to go by...I have raised 6 & 7 wk babies but feel they would have been better with their moms..

I think it def sounds like your doing all you can in this sad situation. I just hope the other puppies get homes as good as yours and that know the needs and are willing to everything that can!
She looks like she's going to be a tan/creme combo and a li'l more yorkie looking pup. I'm excited to see a picture of her months from now! Way too cute... goodluck!!

She is a beautiful little puppy. You have so much experience and knowledge and you are home all day long to take care of this new puppy. This is going to be a very lucky little baby. I like the name Bailey . SHe is going to be so much fun, but a lot of work. I thought her siblings were also very cute, I hope they will be ok, and also go to experienced owners.

imdll 12-14-2011 05:59 PM

What a beautiful little pup you have coming to your home. You surely will have your hands full, but by the sounds of things she couldn't be going to a better home. I wish you well during this adventure.

Bailey's coming home tonight...nervous, excited, I feel just like before I gave birth to my oldest daughter. Well wish us luck, and naps because I know I will have zero sleep for awhile. As soon as I can I will post plenty of pics ; probably even too many ;-)
