Coat concerns I just got my new baby Rosco about 5 weeks ago and am concerned about his coat texture! He's AKC'd, cute as a button and completely resembles a yorkie except for his thin hair. The breeder showed me another puppy from a previous litter of the same parents and assured me that his hair would grow. He's 3 and 1/2 months now and it has grown in the past couple weeks, but it still doesn't have that thick full look! Is it possible that something's wrong with him, and how can I found out? I'm not sure who I should consult?

When I first got Cricket her coat wasnt the best. But then at about 5-6 months it started to change and now its just wonderful. I think all puppy coats are different and I wouldn't worry too much for right now.

Thanks, I love hearing a positive response! I get impatient because people are constantly asking why his hair is different! I try to avoid justifying his cuteness cuz I love him regardless!

My puppy is a little over 3 months old and sounds exactly like yours. At the beginning of this formum is a log post about "Yorkie coats and colors . . . " A section of this article was very encouraging. It said: ------------------------------------------------------------------------- A puppy whose coat appears sparse or thin will, as an adult, have a thick, long coat of the correct fine silky, glossy texture. This coat’s growth is like a human’s hair, in that it is born with very little but by adulthood has an abundance of hair, the quantity having doubled and redoubled all during puppyhood (or childhood). ------------------------------------------------------------------------- So - it looks like you and I have nothing to worry about - but rather can look forward to an exceptionally nice coat. Hope this helps. Carol Jean

Thanks Carol! Thats so good to hear! I've been searching hundreds of yorkie pictures looking for one that looks like him! Although I'm yet to find one, I realized there isn't any two alike and whatever happens with his coat I'm sure I'll adore him regardless! I definitely appreciate your feedback tho, and hope he turns out cute!
