How long did it take before your pup was 100% pad trained?

I wish I had an answer for you. When Max was a pup, he wouldn't go potty anywhere other than his pad at home, not even outside! He would hold it and cry to get home.

I think with both of my boys there was an element of luck relative to potty training.

The only things I can recommend are close supervision, anticipating needing to go potty (vigorous play or excitement usually bring on the urge) and frequent trips outside.

Be sure to praise for good potties always. I also taught my boys "no potty there" on our walks to keep them away from people's flowers and garbage cans because they love to mark everything outside.

If you want extra insurance when visiting another home, you could use doggy panties.

I've only ever schedule fed because she is a food monster! My last yorkie I was able to free-feed and she would regulate herself...I don't see that ever happening with ZoE...she'd just eat & eat & get fat. I do like how scheduled feeding makes potty times more predictable.

Way to go ZoE! She and Max sound a lot alike on both potty and food. Teddy regulates, but Max would eat himself sick now.

well after saying that sunny was pad trained yesterday, last night he had an "accident". he did a little poo on the floor in his room.
i say accident but he did it to get our attention as we were busy doing other things and not playing with him, the little bugger

Katie Scarlett is 5 months and I would say she is 99.9% of the way potty trained. She went weeks without an accident and then had 2 this week. But she is still young and I know accidents do happen. We use the Potty Training Puppy Apartment system and it has worked wonders for us. We also have 2 of those pad trays set up in the middle and other end of the house. So she has 3 options to pee depending on where she is in the house. And she uses all 3 depending on which is closest. We are working on going outside. She is getting better about peeing before puppy class and out on walks, but only poopied once outside.
