Disgusted with the new IN thing Dying pets in bright colours!! I just saw this on the news this morning and it made me really angry. You could even see that the news anchors were horrified by it as well. Apparently photos of dyed pets have shown up in trendy magazines, and it's starting to catch on. I don't have any problems with putting a sweater on a dog or the bow in the hair. Sometimes I feel that people do treat their pets like dolls, but as long as the dog is safe and happy... each to their own. But this makes me think that people may use harmful chemicals on their dogs in order to make them look trendy. The lady who was doing it just said "it doesn't SEEM to hurt them"!! Seriously, I'm really angry.:thumbdown:thumbdown:thumbdown |
I disagree with dying as well... Too many times people aproach me and TELL me that I should dye my bichon because apparently she is like a blank canvas. Most of the time I just ignore them, but it's horrible that people are starting to catch on to doingg this. |
Probably going to feel the wrath for this but we dyed Silver for Halloween but had it done at the groomers with organic dye, they didn't put it close to the skin and you could still see her roots. It was temporary and has all pretty much washed out (It would probably all be gone if she got a bath more then once a week). I of course checked with my vet first and it's not something I plan on doing to her all the time if ever again. But I must say that Silver is NEVER treated as an object and I would do anything for her at anytime whatever it may be. |
I have dyed Thor several times, including orange for Halloween. I use pet safe dye that washes out over the course of a few weeks. |

I]wouldnt do it but if its done with a safe dye I dont see a problem with it. I wouldnt let my daughter dye her hair pink or a color either though like the teens do |
I think it's cute, as long as the dyes uses are non-toxic. What's the harm? For a cheap, non-toxic dye, I knew a lot of people that used unsweetened Kool Aid powder mixed with a tiny bit of water to make a paste. It washes out gradually. My groomer offers dye services, it's all organic and safe. |
I wouldn't do it I think it's silly. My groomers offers it in a dye made for dogs-it's safe for them unlike store bought people dye. Ironically local news guy (I think it's more his wife's dog she always walks it) they dye their white dog pink on the ears paws & muzzle-ironically where it would get pink staining from bacterial infection (beef stain). |
i would not do it |
oh I "duno".......maybe, sure, why not. ;) I think it would be cute to give a male a colored mohawk, or a few different colored spikes! :sidesplt: (with kool-aid of course! ;) |
I don't think I'd ever do it, but I don't see a problem if it doesn't hurt the animal & is very safe for their skin. Nothing like human dye. My mom used to have dalmations & around easter would dot them with food coloring. Though I thought it was kinda dumb it didn't seem to hurt the dogs in the least. I did just see a slide show or something the other day, maybe on Youtube, about dogs (like chows, etc) being 'painted' as animals & put on display in a zoo. I thought that was horrible, imo, as they were completely being objectified. |
Oy, I knew there were ridiculous people out there who dyed their horses.... (yes I know a person who dyed their QH black cause it had a few white spots and didn't match the breed description, filthy scoundrel) Personally I would never dye Harley's hair, I don't really see a problem with non-toxic dyes, but honestly, not everyone is smart enough to seek out safe products to do this with that is what angers me. |

I'm pretty sure I've seen a few breeders who's animals looked a lil touched up...:eek::thumbdown |
I would not do that to my dogs, however, as long as it is safe and non toxic I don't have a problem with others who do. it is interesting and fun to see it . bUt, i don't know if dogs enjoy it ;) |
I don't like to see pets dyed. I know it's supposed to be safe and nontoxic but I don't care for it. What bothers me most is the ridiculous colors they dye pets. A pink poodle or a purple maltese is just wrong. I don't mind seeing dogs in bows, clothes, etc. (because I do that too), but I would never change the color of my furbaby. Pets have feelings too. |
If someone put color on bailey, I think I'd just dye! |
I don't think we'll ever see dying a dog's hair as being an "in" thing to do. I think it will always stay with the minority of pet owners. As long as they are using pet safe dye, I see nothing wrong with it. Would I do it? Probably not. I get enough people asking me if I bleach Uni as it is. |
A few years ago the "in" thing was pierced ears. |
I know that they make hair dye for dogs that is supposed to be harmless to them but the idea of using a dog to be trendy or stylish just makes me sick. Already people are looking for tiny dogs that they can fit in a bag like the wacky singing stars and starlets in Hollywood do. Little dogs are being mass produced to meet the demand of the trendy people that think stuffing a dog in a purse is cool but who do not have the least interest in training a dog or having it as a companion. Now we will have teenagers and irresponsible people dying dog's hair in order to show it off to the gang. The media is partly responsible for promoting these fads. |
I saw something on Animal Planet where there was a drag queen & doggie fashion show to raise money for charity. All of the dyes used were safe and non toxic. I really have no issue with it. The dogs get lots of attention and in the case of the fashion show, it was done for a good cause. That said, I would never be interested in dying my own little ones. |
As I said I realize that the dye they sell for dogs is harmless. It's the idea of a fad involving pets that bothers me. When the media starts promoting this type of thing irresponsible people start doing things to pets that should not be done. They don't need anymore ways to abuse animals than there already are. The airhead that decides to dye their mom's dog with regular hair dye when mom isn't home is going to do some damage. Not to mention the others who will go out and get a pet just to be in on the trend of having a weird looking dog for all the gang to admire. |
In general, they use safe organic dye. It's not really the latest craze. It's been going on for ages and some groomers dye their dogs in competitions. It's not hurting the animal, if anything it's something for the owner and dog to do together (the competitions). I've seen people dress their dogs in worse ways than putting washable dye on them. People will do weird things, personally I like letting my dog be a dog, but I don't think i'm in any position to look down on them especially if no one is getting hurt. |
There is a groomer in a couple towns over from where I live... they dye there dogs. I think it looks EXTREAMLY silly! A dog is supposed to look "normal". But then again, I dress my dog in clothes and bows.:) But if it is safe, go for it. But it just looks weird. While I was driving by one day, I saw a hot pink, all dyed, poodle running around in the parking lot.... and it is right by a busy 4 way intersection. My dog aint going there! |
