How do I tell the difference between styles? To me so many Yorkie pups look alike. When I got Sophie, Ziggy and Rusty, I picked them out by seeing them in person and loved their colors, looks and personalities.

I had to tell my boys no on a puppy the first time we went to look a few years ago. I didn't click with them and they didn't have the look I wanted. I was so glad we waited and loved the ones we finally got!

I have Yorkie/Maltese so waht do I need to look for in a purebred Yorkie?

bring him home and before hubby says anything just put him in his arms

- he wont be able to resist....thats what i did with my dad when we got 3 of our dogs lol men like to think theyre hard and cant be broken but give them a tiny bundle of fluff and they turn to jelly! Millie gets more kisses and cuddles of my fiancee' than i do!!! lol

Well for one thing I would go to the ytca website and look at the standard. That is the blueprint for what a yorkie should be. It also has a listing of ytca breeders. Then I just really looked and compared pups I would see on here and on the internet. Now I dont think the internet is a good place to buy a pup from but you can look at different pictures and qualities and get an idea. When you really look there is a wide range of looks in the yorkie pups. It is also good to look at ones that are a little older say 10-12 weeks or so

Thanks for the info. The little boy I'm looking at was born in August and isn't ready yet. My problem is that their looks change so much from when they are puppies to when they are full grown.

Yes they do but their general facial and body shape and such stays the same, It is good to look at the adults too. It is just good to do alot of research and find a reputable breeder that is breeding for the standard. Your going to have this dog upward to 15 yrs or more you should be getting the yorkie you really want to have in all ways

Can you tell by the pic if he has the right looks?

I really do like this breeder. I bought my Morkies from her and so have two my friends. I have also referred others to her and they are happy with their pups.

I absolutely loved Rusty's color, face and ears. he looked just like a purebred in the face.

Thanks so much for your help. I am looking at the YTCA website right now. I live in WV. Do you know where I could find a good quality breeder? I asked my breeder to send me pics of his mom and dad. I'll share them as soon as I get them.

Look for the ytca breeders in the WV area that is a good place to start, I will tell you though that someone breeding mixed breeds is not going to be a reputable breeder. Im sure she is very nice Im sure she cares about her dogs but thats not what makes a breeder reputable. Does she even do any kind of health testing?

There are none in WV on the YTCA website but I did find some in PA.

I believe when I asked her about genetic testing a few years ago, she told me that she did. I do see on puppyfind.com that she's selling quite a variety of dogs now. Maybe she's started lowering her standards. I don't like that. I'm going to do more Yorkie research and take my time selecting a reputable breedeer.
