| Will Coco Skittles Starburst Ever Stop Singing? Basically Coco SSO is a rescue Yorkie! He came from a very horrible situation, before coming to my home. Based on my first interactions with him, I knew he was physically abused and would be starved as a form of punishment. My family and I have taken in a couple of rescue dogs; Coco is our fourth. I have had experiecne with my other Yorkie Hugo Versace Fendi. However, Hugo VFO never or barely sang (aka Barked). I love Coco. He has defiantly found me. However his singing can get a bit overwhelming. I have done the can with pennies to deter him-works with my other dogs, not with him. I even tried some of the whisper training techniques; to no avail. I have taken him to the vet because I was worried that he was ill. Coco has been diagnosed with epilepsy and takes medication twice a day. It does seem that the medication does spike his hyperactivity then Coco "crashes". He will also be getting neutered-which I hear sometimes helps. Any YTer have any concrete advise to help Coco curtail his Singing? I have heard and read that this breed can be very yappy. Yet, I believe that this poor guy learned that barking would save his life in his other home. He barks for everything. When he wants water, toys, wants me to play with him, when he wants a toy that has gone under the sofa, when the other dogs take his toys, when he is thirsty, and the list goes on and on! His barking of choice is a high pitched squeal/yelp which sounds like someone is killing him-poor guy! I love Coco SSO and will NOT give him up for anything, but would appreciate and experience that any YT has on this subject. Even of self-soothing techniques for myself because it does get very overwhelming and sometimes I am in tears because I want to the the best daddy this furbaby has ever had. Thanks all in advance for your love and support! |

| Good for you for trying to help your little guy. I wish I could help you. You might try posting this in the General Training section or do a search on barking/crying. Good Luck to you both .

| Bless your sweet heart for saving him. I'm sure he will be forever grateful and happy in your home. I wonder if you worked with him by laying (not hitting) your pointer finger on his nose each time he started the barking and saying no if it would work? It could be partially because of the meds making him hyperactive. I'd like to know how he progresses. I'm sure he's loving be loved!

| Under General Training check out: Enough Barking. I have used this method with rescues. It is rarely easy to retrain a dog, but so worth the effort. Good Luck.
