Angry Locked in the closet... The WHOLE night????

So yesterday I took both of my babies to my parents house because i had a little business to take care of and I was going to be gone the whole night. Because they are my family I trust them and I THOUGHT it would've better than me leaving them at daycare/boarding with strangers. Well I was completely wrong and foolish to think that!!! . I came back early this morning to find that Max won't eat, he's not playing, his bark sound worn out and old, he didn't greet ,me (like he does everytime i walk through a door), and he's just not himself. So of course I start asking 50 million questions, but no one gives me answers. So I say "where did snowflake sleep?" my mom says "in my bed with me." I say "ok, where did Max sleep?" she says " Oh, we locked him in the guest room closet, because we didn't want him in the bed with us." I was SO PISSED!!! I can only imagine how my poor baby felt throught the night. My sister's the one that put him in the closet, i was so angry and upset that I couldn't even look/say anything to her because she wouldn't have liked the words that I had in mind. And isn't this some kind of animal cruelty to lock a dog up in a tiny dark place all night while he/she just cries??? I'm really upset and they will not be going back over there!!! But right now he just wants to sleep and be babied. So im cuddling him. I guess he doesn't want to eat because he probably has a sore throat from all of that crying he did through the night. I'll give it until tommorrow because he is showing interest he just can't seem to get it down. anybody know of anything that will soothe his throat?

Sorry it's a little long but thanks for listening and for any feedback.

Love him up today I am sure everything will be fine.

Oh my goodness, I would be fuming! That is so cruel to lock a little dog in a closet all night!! I would be telling them what I thought about it, and never leave my dogs there again! Poor little guy. I hope he gets over the trauma quickly and is back to his old self real soon.

Who in their right mind would lock a baby in a closet all night? I could see if there was a gate in the doorway but with the door closed??? That is just nuts. I would go to day care and forget about letting them watch your baby...ever!!! The poor baby

You have every right to be furious. You are more controlled than me because I would have flipped out!!!!

Just give him lots of love and hugs and I'm sure he will be fine. But please don't leave him there again.

I thank both of you for your well wishes. It's nice to know you feel the same way I do and that Im not over reacting (like my "friend" just told me I was). I don't have skin children so to me he is my one and only son, and I love him as if he were my skin child. and the way i think of it is my sister just locked my 5 month old baby boy in the closet all night... SO if anything I think am under reacting!!!

Yea I've learned to control my mouth in front of my mother (for respect purposes) But in my eyes she is just as guilty as my sister because she knew where he was and she didn't bother to go get him. So to keep myself from saying those "kind" words that I was going to say... to ALL of them I got my babies collected their things and just left.

Oh my I would be quite upset too That poor baby!!!

Maybe a little teaspoon of honey might soothe his poor little tbroat. Or if he tolerates it well (mine get it once in a while) some vanilla frozen yogurt or ice cream. Just a tiny bit

I'm so sorry that your own family did this to your baby. WTF?!!

Thank-you very much for your suggestion, it is greatly appreciated, and ice cream sounds good I think he DESERVES a small treat like that.

Yes, my own family, and what makes it worse was that they pamper my other dog she gets royal treatment with them... not that I have a problem with that. But why would you treat them so differently??

Poor little Max! I don't understand how anyone could be so cruel to a little puppy, especially your own family members

I'm so sorry this happened to him, give him a hug from Belle and me.

Poor baby! He must have been so so happy to see you this morning.

My mother in law won't let mine in her house (She makes them stay outside on the back porch, even through the night) so I have forgone any holiday visits in the last few years and my hubby will always tell her some made up thing as to why I didn't come along but as far as I'm concerned, if she asks me I just tell her. My dogs couldn't come so I stayed home with them.

I hope he's feeling better soon and I agree he deserves a little ice cream treat today!

How could they sleep at all with that poor little thing stuck in a dark closet? Apart from the obvious, how did they sleep with all of that racket going on? If he yelped, whined and barked enough to make his throat sore, it must have kept the whole house awake unless the guest room is yards and yards away from the other bedrooms. It would have been simpler to allow him to sleep in the bed, too, just from a strictly practical standpoint. Now to the obvious - what on earth were they thinking???? Who treats their family's dear pet this way???? They must be kind and gentle people or you would never have left you baby there. That being the case, how did this happen?

I am so sorry that your own family was cruel to your baby. Hmmmm I think I might of tried to stuff my sister in a closet. WOW there is no excuse for treating him like that. You might want to keep him away from your mom and sister. I know that a dog cannt remember peeing in your house, but they do not forget an unkindness or who did it.
You also might need a little rest from them, personally I wouldn't be able to look or speak to them for a little while. To afraid that I would tell them how I felt.

Yes the guest room is all the way on the other side of the house so they probably heard nothing. and I trusted them because I have a 4 year old bichon whom they used to babysit all the time.... I've only had max for about 2 and half months and this was the first time i've left him overnight with them. They have never done anything like this to my bichon so why would they treat Maxy like this?? It's beyond me why they did this, but I can asure you they will NEVER do it again!!
