| Is This Normal? Dh and I went to see the little girl today at our breeder's house. She is a cutie. We got home, and Gidget is VERY UPSET w me. The Dh she was a little upset w but got over it. Me, she will not sit w me, be next to me, play w me, etc. She turns her back to me and shakes if I get near her. (I was the one holding the little one at the breeder's; husband just petted her a little w one hand.) Is this normal? Is this a sign we are making a mistake? We are really surprised w this reaction, as she was raised in this home w other dogs until she was 18 mo. She has been w us for 11 months now.

| Surely she smells another dog on you. I have always wondered this. When I went to my friends house, her poodle jumped in my lap so I let him stay and played with him. When I got home, Shanti (almost 3 year old shih tzu/maltese) just kept sniffing me all over and snorting as if I had been caught cheating. Smart little buggers.

| Maybe you're breeder will allow you to visit your pup with Gidget as long as she is up to date on all vaccines etc. Could be a good thing to let Gidget meet her too

| Ziva always knows when I pet other dogs at yardsales on Saturday mornings,in fact I made it a point to do it. This summer I took Ziva to see a possible rehome we were going to do and she did ok but wanted to be up in my arms most of the time.We decided to get a puppy figuring Ziva would be better accepting of one. When I went to see Abby I made sure to rub her all over me. When we bought Abby home Ziva didn't seem to be surprised but she has been wary of her, with an occassional low growl when the puppy gets in her face.Ziva has had one "time out".They just started playing chase and a little tug in the past few days! (2 weeks tomorrow). My heart breaks at times for Ziva but I know it will be good for her in the long run, she was getting to hung up on little things (boredom) |

| If I pay to much attention to Sammy when my mom brings him over Callie will get mad at me and not look at me, come when I call her, kiss me, ignores me, and I swear sometimes gives me the stink eye. She has gotten a little better as time goes on. Like Sammy was here this weekend and I tried my hardest to make sure everyone was getting the same amount of attention and she did at\ lot better now then she did the first few times Sammy would come over. But Callie is an only dog and has been for four years.

| This is just my opinion but yes I think it is normal. When my DH goes to his mother's house he will play with her Yorkie. Rosie will immediately smell him on my DH. She turns her back on DH and will have nothing to do with him. I just think it is the smell of the other dog that makes them do that. After a little while, she gets over it and life goes on!

| Whenever I have been playing with my Mom's or Brother's dog, and Gizmo smells it, he gets the look on his face of "Traitor! Why didn't you bring me!?!" Brat

| My Lucy snubs me when she smells another dog on me. I guess she figures her brother is enough and I better not think about another one. She claims that shes the baby.

| If we give one affection, we give all affection. I really try not to make them jealous or feel left out. Sometimes I have all of them in my lap at the same time. lol! |

Now this is the little girl we are getting from the breeder, so now we are worried, "Are we making the right decision?" Is it just the scent but when she sees the other female it will be ok? The other female is a year younger and smaller than Gidget. How was Rosie when you first brought Mikki home?

| It passed. lol. She was probably mad you left her alone and or she smelled the other pup on you. I have 3. Austin my alpha, and my first, reacts this way all the time. A few hours, days later. He is best friends with my newbies and playing cops and robbers. lol

Now, they run through our house playing, play tug of war, see who can get the bully stick the fastest, etc. We still have an occasional fight but nothing like it was at first. Now, I actually think they kinda of like each other. My friends male Yorkie came over to play and growled at Mikki. Rosie got all up in his business. It was like she was telling him "Hey don't mess with my sister. That's my job!" Lol. It will be tough at first. There is no denying that. But if you want it to work then it will. I asked a lot of questions when things happened and that helps you to figure out how to handle things. (Thanks Ladyjane! ) Like I said in the previous post, just make sure you do everything with Gidget first. She is used to you being there, the new pup isn't. BTW, Rosie is 4 and Mikki is 1. Rosie is 5 1/2 lb and Mikki is 3 1/2 lb. You will be surprised how well a small one is able to hold their own. So, I don't think the age and size will be too much of an issue. If I can help in anyway let me know. You can PM me at any time! Go with your heart. And trust me, if Rosie can handle this, any pup can! Lol. Can't wait to see what you decide to do.

| May I make a suggestion Before you bring her home. If it is possible take Gigets shampoo and conditioner and give the new baby a bath with it. Then they except them better. When Sassy was a year old I adopted Patti. I flew to Texas to pick her up. I bathed her with Sassy's shampoo and conditioner and introduced her to the others it was just like she was always her. They smell the same and think they belong to the pack. I know it will all work out for you. Gidget will have a pal to play with they really keep each other company. My two girls do every thing together including sleep together. They are inseperable. I think it was the best thing I could have done for Sassy. Best wishes with your new baby.
