| ![]() She seems to have lengthy nails, so does my Scoobers it's a nightmare doing his nails. Regular filing over a period of time will actually cause the 'quick' to recede. Over grown nails will have a longer thicker 'quick' according to my groomers whom is a retired vet tech. I'm unsure of the time on this though maybe someone else knows.

| ![]() Anytime a dog goes without having it's nails trimmed for a month or more the vein in the nail gets a chance to grow longer. When they get overgrown you have to trim just a little off every few days until the nails get back to the normal size. It really hard to see the vein when your dog or cat has dark colored nails Over grown nails can cause deformity to the foot after years of neglect. Sometimes you can make arrangements with your vet tech or a groomer to work on the nails until they get to a normal length. Dogs don't forget it when you cut too close. They have a great memory for pain. We had a dog once who was terrified of letting us cut his nails but we could take him to the groomer and he would not make a peep. |
