Reward or Ransom? 1 Attachment(s) Hi guys, I have been super busy, but wanted to share my story real quick. Last Thurs, Callie got out somehow. She is one who trys to dash thru any open door, so I may have let her out when I was bringing in stuff from my car. We noticed within 10 min of her being gone and we went out looking and calling her name. We searched for 3 and 1/2 hours until it was dark. Calling her name and walking/ driving the streets. We had neighbors, kids on bikes, people on foot. No luck. I was bawling because she has a collar that says "im lost call mommy" with my cell phone #. I knew that someone had her and they didnt call, so they were planning to keep her. At 9PM I had made a flyer and was at the late night fed-ex making 18 posters and 300 fliers. My husband and I went out until 1AM posting them all over the area. We wanted them up for when kids went to school and people went to work Fri AM. We put them on every mail box. at the area schools, Fast food drive thru/ gas pumps. We hung the posters at major intersections. I slept from sheer exhaustion from 1 to 5 AM. I got up and went out to hit all the vets, groomers and starbucks at 6AM. At 10 AM a lady called to say she saw my poster and "thinks" she has my dog. She kept saying she didnt get a good look at the dog she has because it was very nervous, so she put it in her yard and left it alone. This lady turned out to live 4 doors down from me. A "neighbor" if you can call her that. She mentioned seeing my reward poster and said she would be home in about 2 hrs. When she showed up at my door with Callie to collect her $500.00 reward(RANSOM), Callie was still wearing my collar and tag with my phone number. She didnt notice the tag, she did notice a $500.00 reward sign. Can you believe she accepted the reward money? I feel like she stole my dog. If she had let her be, She would have come home,or we would have found her. I walked past this ladys house 3 times yelling Callies name. I hope she uses the $ to buy a hearing aid because I guess she didnt her me screaming my dogs name from the top of my lungs. Anyway, she said she saw the posters at the gas pump, so this is a good spot to post missing fliers. Below is a pic of Callie with her poster! A happy ending and well worth the $500 to have my baby back. |
Well I believe in Carma! Whatever she spends that money on, will NOT bring her joy! It will blow up in her face! That's plain wrong! That's what is wrong with this world! |
Thank goodness you got Callie back. That woman should not have taken the reward money. It's amazing that she didn't see the tag on the collar but she saw the reward on the poster. What goes around, comes around. At least your little one is back home safe and sound. |
Karma's a b*tch. I'm glad you have your baby back safe. |
Glad she home safe and sound. A neighbor? 500 dollars? that's ridiculous. |
I am glad you got your precious Baby back. People know that a beautiful small dog like Callie is loved and missed very much. I swear I would have been tempted to write a check, then put a stop pay on it. Just because she was not really lost at all. Sorry that was my outrage escaping. My neighbor is a police officer and he said, Sometimes greedy people wait days and even when they know who owns the dog, hoping a reward will be posted. If a reward doesn't seem likely, or it is not enough, they can always rehome a pretty small dog for a fee. :( |
These copies are 11X17 and we used glue stick to paste them to poster board cut in half so the finnished poster is 14X21. The poster board was 1.00 and I think the copies are 1.50, so it comes out to $2.00 each, but they make a big impact. They can make them on the spot no waiting. Good info to have if you need posters in a hurry. |
These people also mowed down the neighborhood mailbox one day and pretended they didnt know anything about it. They parked the damaged truck in the RV parking along side their house and closed the gate. Another neighbor saw them do it and told the police. The Police were at her house that night, but no one knows what became of it. They are really shady people. |
Callie had just had her teeth cleaned a week before, so she has one shaved leg where she had an IV. I put that she needs medication daily and has a shaved leg from a recent IV. I didnt say she was microchipped because I was afraid they wouldnt take her to the vet if they knew she was chipped. I also didnt put Yorkie on the sign just lost dog. I thought if they werent familiar with the breed it would be better. You can google yorkie and see they are valuable. I was so conflicted about what to put and what not to put on the poster. |
What comes around does go around and if she did do this with greedy intentions she deserves what comes her way. I guess it is possible for her not to be able to read the tag. I found a dog once with tags but he was so scared I couldn't read it because I was afraid he would bite me. I don't think she should have accepted the reward. She lives so close. neighbors should just do these type of things for each other. |
I can't believe she took the reward for keeping a dog in her yard 4 houses down from yours. The ONLY time I can someone taking the reward is if they are out money for your pet- like taking it to the vet, groomer, feeding it for days, etc. I am glad you got your baby back. |
That is horrible. I cannot believe some people are so selfish and greedy, but it would have been so much worse to never see her again. My dog was lost a few years ago, and I still look for her. I know she is long gone, but that hole never heals completely. I am glad you have her back where she is loved and safe. |
Sounds to me like she knew exactly what she was doing. Don't worry though, what goes around , comes around and I am a firm believer in that. Thank God you got your baby back. |
Oh my I am so glad that you got Callie back. All I can is that woman who had her is a wicked witch. |
I am so glad you got Callie back. What a horrible thing to take a "reward" from a neighbor. |
Wow! First off, I am soooo glad you got your Callie back. I can't believe someone would truly accept the reward. I can't even imagine. I had a dog wander onto our yard last year and I let him right in our house. Thankfully he had tags on with a cell phone number and I can't even imagine keeping him and waiting to see reward signs, etc. Wow! Either way, I am just so happy she is back in your arms!!!! |
I am so glad you have your pupster back safe and sound. How terrible that your neighbor did not check the tags and then took the reward money. I would never take a cash reward under any circumstances for returning someone's beloved pet. Seeing the family happy would be reward enough for me. |
I am so happy to hear you got Callie back. There is no way I would have wanted the reward money I would just be happy she was back with her family. |
Thanks God she is back home and safe Quote:
What a "witch" how can she be so close to you and not know the Callie , I'm sure she knew what she was hoping for and she got it. Well belived me that money is going to burn a hold in her pocket. Everyone within a 2 square block for sure have seen me with my 2 little ones out there 3-6 times a day. I mean you can't miss us standing in front or around the corner of our house. 4 houses away and to keep that poor thing in the yard. Too bad she didnt bark as you call her name. My Miley is the same way, I go nuts sometime in the house looking for her and I call and I call and I will yell TREAT! When she is ready she will come out from wherever she is hiding, she finds a new place to hide every few day. Count your blessing , you have Callie back and she is safe in her mommy arms, Your money you can replace, but Callie she is one of a kind. manina, miley, max |
I'm happy that you got Callie back but I can't believe that your "neighbor" would do something like that. I think she waited for a reward to be posted. Some people just don't have morals. Recently one of the neighborhood kids "lost" their iPod in my townhouse area. I did my own detective work and found out that one of the little kids (3yrs. old) took it. The dad whose kid lost the iPod touch was giving a reward of $20. for the return of it. I made my son get it back from said little boy (whose 14 year old brother was using it) and give it back to the dad. I told my son to not accept the reward. Because it was just the right thing to do. He refused the reward several times. The dad still insisted on giving my son the money, and I then told my son it was ok. He was just glad to get back a $300 gadget. Sorry for rambling. I just really believe on doing what's right and in Karma. |
I am so glad you got her back but am very sorry about the neighbor there is no way she didnt see the tag. |
I'm so glad you got her back! I can't believe she took your money too! I agree with the others, karma will bite her in the booty!!! What goes around comes around in this world. |
So glad she is safe at home ....neighbor  i would watch out for these kind |
Im so glad Callie is back home. I too believe that what goes around comes around. Someday that woman will learn money isnt always the answer. |
I don't know how large of neighborhood you live in, but maybe you could have some "thank you" posters made and placed around the neighborhood thanking those that helped in the search and then also state which neighbor "found" her. You could even put on the poster that this person accepted the reward money...... " And a special thanks to XXXXXX for taking care of Callie the 4 days she was lost." She'll get hers one day. Glad the baby is back where she belongs. |
Your neighbor should be ashamed of herself! Granted I do not know her financial situation, but wrong is just wrong - and she was wrong. I wonder how long she had your baby and if she just waited until you offered the reward to return her. Glad you got your baby back. Sorry you have to deal with people like her. |
Glad to see you got Callie back. As for your neighbor one day she'll get her just reward. In the meantime you have your baby back safe and sound. |
Thank god you got her back..... sounds like she was going to sell her till she saw your $500.00 reward:mad: and I guess that was a lot easer to get money that way. What goes around comes around. |
wow, a neighbor 4 doors down should have been helping you look. You were obviously upset. Can't believe she would take reward. I would be very careful now that this has happened. She may try to steal the dog for money again. You do not need to be stressed like that. Thank God your baby is ok and home again. |
