Reward or Ransom? 1 Attachment(s) Hi guys, I have been super busy, but wanted to share my story real quick. Last Thurs, Callie got out somehow. She is one who trys to dash thru any open door, so I may have let her out when I was bringing in stuff from my car. We noticed within 10 min of her being gone and we went out looking and calling her name. We searched for 3 and 1/2 hours until it was dark. Calling her name and walking/ driving the streets. We had neighbors, kids on bikes, people on foot. No luck. I was bawling because she has a collar that says "im lost call mommy" with my cell phone #. I knew that someone had her and they didnt call, so they were planning to keep her. At 9PM I had made a flyer and was at the late night fed-ex making 18 posters and 300 fliers. My husband and I went out until 1AM posting them all over the area. We wanted them up for when kids went to school and people went to work Fri AM. We put them on every mail box. at the area schools, Fast food drive thru/ gas pumps. We hung the posters at major intersections. I slept from sheer exhaustion from 1 to 5 AM. I got up and went out to hit all the vets, groomers and starbucks at 6AM. At 10 AM a lady called to say she saw my poster and "thinks" she has my dog. She kept saying she didnt get a good look at the dog she has because it was very nervous, so she put it in her yard and left it alone. This lady turned out to live 4 doors down from me. A "neighbor" if you can call her that. She mentioned seeing my reward poster and said she would be home in about 2 hrs. When she showed up at my door with Callie to collect her $500.00 reward(RANSOM), Callie was still wearing my collar and tag with my phone number. She didnt notice the tag, she did notice a $500.00 reward sign. Can you believe she accepted the reward money? I feel like she stole my dog. If she had let her be, She would have come home,or we would have found her. I walked past this ladys house 3 times yelling Callies name. I hope she uses the $ to buy a hearing aid because I guess she didnt her me screaming my dogs name from the top of my lungs. Anyway, she said she saw the posters at the gas pump, so this is a good spot to post missing fliers. Below is a pic of Callie with her poster! A happy ending and well worth the $500 to have my baby back. |
Well I believe in Carma! Whatever she spends that money on, will NOT bring her joy! It will blow up in her face! That's plain wrong! That's what is wrong with this world! |
Thank goodness you got Callie back. That woman should not have taken the reward money. It's amazing that she didn't see the tag on the collar but she saw the reward on the poster. What goes around, comes around. At least your little one is back home safe and sound. |
Karma's a b*tch. I'm glad you have your baby back safe. |
Glad she home safe and sound. A neighbor? 500 dollars? that's ridiculous. |
I am glad you got your precious Baby back. People know that a beautiful small dog like Callie is loved and missed very much. I swear I would have been tempted to write a check, then put a stop pay on it. Just because she was not really lost at all. Sorry that was my outrage escaping. My neighbor is a police officer and he said, Sometimes greedy people wait days and even when they know who owns the dog, hoping a reward will be posted. If a reward doesn't seem likely, or it is not enough, they can always rehome a pretty small dog for a fee. :( |
These copies are 11X17 and we used glue stick to paste them to poster board cut in half so the finnished poster is 14X21. The poster board was 1.00 and I think the copies are 1.50, so it comes out to $2.00 each, but they make a big impact. They can make them on the spot no waiting. Good info to have if you need posters in a hurry. |
These people also mowed down the neighborhood mailbox one day and pretended they didnt know anything about it. They parked the damaged truck in the RV parking along side their house and closed the gate. Another neighbor saw them do it and told the police. The Police were at her house that night, but no one knows what became of it. They are really shady people. |
Callie had just had her teeth cleaned a week before, so she has one shaved leg where she had an IV. I put that she needs medication daily and has a shaved leg from a recent IV. I didnt say she was microchipped because I was afraid they wouldnt take her to the vet if they knew she was chipped. I also didnt put Yorkie on the sign just lost dog. I thought if they werent familiar with the breed it would be better. You can google yorkie and see they are valuable. I was so conflicted about what to put and what not to put on the poster. |
What comes around does go around and if she did do this with greedy intentions she deserves what comes her way. I guess it is possible for her not to be able to read the tag. I found a dog once with tags but he was so scared I couldn\'t read it because I was afraid he would bite me. I don\'t think she should have accepted the reward. She lives so close. neighbors should just do these type of things for each other. |
I can\'t believe she took the reward for keeping a dog in her yard 4 houses down from yours. The ONLY time I can someone taking the reward is if they are out money for your pet- like taking it to the vet, groomer, feeding it for days, etc. I am glad you got your baby back. |
That is horrible. I cannot believe some people are so selfish and greedy, but it would have been so much worse to never see her again. My dog was lost a few years ago, and I still look for her. I know she is long gone, but that hole never heals completely. I am glad you have her back where she is loved and safe. |
Sounds to me like she knew exactly what she was doing. Don\'t worry though, what goes around , comes around and I am a firm believer in that. Thank God you got your baby back. |
Oh my I am so glad that you got Callie back. All I can is that woman who had her is a wicked witch. |
I am so glad you got Callie back. What a horrible thing to take a "reward" from a neighbor. |
