With that being said i have made 3 total of the one of interest mentioned -1 for my ge buddy above ;), and 2 for a friend. i found them to be a labor of love. something thats going to take awhile. and in my opinion not the easiest of beds to make. i do have several other patterns i have bought and will someday try. While i didnt make one for my girl ( i know im a bad momma) shes sleeping in a Cloud 9 bed (2 actually) she just loves them. After making the ones i made, i would much rather make them as a gift instead of selling them. The Cloud 9's from YHR are made and shipped within a short amount of time by wonderful people that do fabulous work and are donating there time to help out furbabies and there needs. They are Worth every penny. But I do have to mention the thought of someone buying one just to copy and sell else where and STEAL the money from YHR sickins me!!:( |

I just want others reading to be aware of the big difference between the two beds. Would hate for someone to order from the Etsy vendor thinking they were getting a bed that would be anything close to the quality of the other beds. I agree with others that this bed is not hard to make (depends upon your level of expertise in sewing/reading patterns), it can be tricky though. Also, it's time consuming...Sherry is right about it taking an hour to sew up all the openings for the individual petals. Whenever my life settles down somewhat I will be making the beds again, as I do love them. I have had to shut down my sewing room to assist in taking care of my very ill MIL. I apologize to those that I have yet to make beds for, I would much prefer to be sewing, instead of being a nurse. In regards to the member using the YHR pattern to profit, I've got a little to add to that too. I have been making the Cloud 9 type bed (I called them beach ball beds) for a few years and have a pattern (given to me by YorkieRose). When I realized YHR was offering these beds, I refused to make any more to sell for my profit. The member that is using the YHR pattern asked me to share my "beach ball" pattern with her, which I did. We were her GE buddy a year or so back, and conversed through PM's for a bit. She wrote me again asking for another copy of the bed pattern, as she had lost hers. I intended to send another copy to her, but forgot to and never heard again from her. Had I any idea she would use the pattern to profit from, I would have never sent it to her. The idea that she actually bought a Cloud 9 bed, to take apart for the pattern is really appalling and such a low-life thing to do. |
Anyone reading this: Please realize I am not talking about the buttercup beds...this is about the Cloud Nine Bed Let me clarify something here. The YT member being discussed did not purchase a Cloud Nine Bed from YHR. I am quite certain that I know who did get it (and they actually won it, did not "purchase" it) and give it to her. Maybe Jen gave it to her...but as she said the woman lost it and then she must have gotten it elsewhere. I will not say who I suspect. Bottom line....just the fact that she was selling it on Etsy was enough for me to know she intentionally copied it. She did not list it on YT as she did with all of her other dog items....so I believe she knew full well how that would be viewed. She is not making them the same way that YHR is...I am positive of that. She is more than likely using different stuffing...she refused to say what she uses in them. I can guarantee her that if she uses a cheaper filling they will not be as loved. Some people might like them, but the dogs really do know the difference! The beds YHR makes have been fully paid for by the members of YHR who make them up until now. Let me fill you all in on the cost: fabric on average is about $10 .. often more stuffing is $10 YHR pays for the shipping at up to $11 so......that leaves about $8 as a profit. I hardly think that anyone would spend the time to make them for that small amount of money. I believe that person is selling hers for $40 plus shipping...oh and also asking people to send their Paypal payments as cash to avoid paying Paypal fees that all of us, including rescues, pay. :thumbdown I can see with some things, but if you are selling, I believe you should pay those fees. |
I am just sick over all this. If the person in question is who I think it is, we received one of these beach ball beds a few GEs back when she was our buddy and I gave her quite a bit of "love" on the forums. I only wish I had known then what I do now. :(:thumbdown |
1 Attachment(s) I bought mine from JenCar here on Yorkietalk (actually I bought two -- one in hot pink & zebra and one in turquoise and zebra). Then I ordered the pattern so I could pass it on to my neice who does craft shows with her sewing. It's a publicly sold pattern, so I don't know why anyone would be getting bent out of shape about others selling or referring! If you design your own product and copyright it, then complain. But NOT with a pattern made by Simplicity! Here is one of the two I bought for @ $50-60 (can't remember exact) from JenCar -- I love the Minky fabric -- it is SO soft, wish I had one in my size! (She let me pick my fabric and I know there was little profit margin after I picked the minky fabric!) The quality is also AWESOME! (BTW I opened 1 thread today.....and it is a huff 'n puff thread. That's why I drop in so seldom these days. |

There are plenty of great threads without huffing and puffing. :) Go past this one and check out some others. With online forums you have this sort of thing. YT is NO different than any other except that IMHO there is less nonsense. |

I do understand why you would be concerned about someone taking apart a Cloud 9 bed being made for CHARITY and selling it for their own profit. I would even understand the FIRST person selling them on YT being upset over others selling the exact same product here. But for someone who is coming along selling the product AFTER others have offered it here and the pattern has been suggested several times here..... that is complaint without reason in my own opinion. I do respect others to have a different opinion, though. ;) Sometimes HUFFING and PUFFING has benefits, sometimes it is even justified. I guess it is the huff 'n puff without justification that bothers me. Stomping ones feet ...... well never mind. I am starting to huff 'n puff myself! LOL! |

Stick around and huff and puff a bit. :D:p:) |
 I tried to edit that last post but I was too late. I did not word that as well as I would have liked. :embarasse YT will always have a special place in my heart as I have learned more about my beloved yorkies here than in all of my books! I've made some great friends I hope to have forever and I have had some good laughs, even a few on myself. ;) |

We are actually talking about two different beds in this discussion. The one the OPer wanted to learn how to make and then the Cloud 9 bed. Debra~this is what I was trying to say in the first place. The OPer said she purchased fabric for $30 and had NO IDEA how to make the bed she linked to her OP. What I was trying to say waaaaaay back on the first page was the for the amount of money spent ($30), needing to also buy a pattern($11), no idea how to make one and needing to ask a relative to help sew it I PERSONALLY WOULD JUST BUY ONE! Maybe I am lazy or that additional $20 or so is just worth it to pay another vendor~possibly even both. I then went on the say that I too had the pattern and felt it was not a beginner or simple pattern to attempt not knowing what you are doing. Somehow what I was originally trying to say has become twisted into huffing and puffing  When someone else mentioned there were YT vendors it wasn't a DEMAND to purchase from them it was a suggestion. It wasn't until a link to Etsy was posted that I felt it was rude. IMO~if I didn't know what I was doing $30 seems to be a lot of money to possibly end up with a pile of nothing. IMO~I would rather put out $50 and actually know I would end up with a nice bed. Separate Subject from the above post since somehow the two beds are being confused. As for the GE participant who was given Cloud 9 bed and then stole the design~wow  that is even lower than all that she did in this past GE! This bed DOES NOT have a pattern that can be purchased from Simplicity, McCalls, Butterrick, Vogue or any other pattern company. So YES THIS IS STEALING! STEALING FROM A RESCUE! :thumbdown |

I felt the same as you did. I can sew if I have to but to risk messing up expensive Minky fabric did not seem worth it to me, when I saw Jencar making such nice beds! But some would rather be able to say "I made it" especially when it is for one of their babies. I was like that with my sons. I had to make them all something --regardless of whether I could buy it cheaper. It was the thought. So, it is all up to the individual on that count. As far as someone trying to rip off a charity -- seems like that is not just individual opinion -- stinks on all levels! |

#1. I did not know anyone on this forum made and sold the bed. #2. I did not hear about anyone here making the bed until after I posted this thread. #3. Even then I have never heard a price of the bed made by a YT member/vender until this page!!!! #4. I had seen the beds online, such as the links i posted on the first page of this thread. The beds were all over $100. I was not willing to pay more than $100 for the bed. So while I was at Evansville, IN. (70 miles form where we live- the closest Hobby Lobby to us) with my daughter , I went to hobby Lobby and bought fabric... it was $26.00. Thinking to myself I would try and make one myself. #5. I did not say I was inexperienced at sewing, I said I was no "real know how" or no expert. I have sewn and do sew. #6. I only posted this thread to see if anyone here had made one and had any tips or suggestions and asked about a pattern. #7. Had I known that a YT member made these for $50 , then I too probably would have went that route in aquiring one. However, as I stated at least 2 other times, I had already purchased the fabric so i think it would be silly for me to buy a bed and not even try to make one after purchasing the fabric to do so. #8 It's really none of your concern if a family memeber helps me. Is it? Considering my family is close and we do things together all the time. we actually like each other, get along well and have FUN helping each other with things. #9. You say you were not mad until the Etsy link was posted, What about your first reply to me? You were rude in that one also. "Wow! you spent $30....." (Very rude). #10. The bed is a pattern is sold by simplicity for anyone to use. #11. If someone here on YT makes and sells harness dresses, or bows, or beds or whatever, then does that mean no one is allowed to make them? (crazy!) #12. This is a free Country.. I can buy whatever from whom ever ... whenever. It's really not your say. So if it makes you mad, then i guess you'll have to find a way to get over it. This is not being said with a smart attitude. This would be the same thing I would say to one of my children or one of my Sunday school class kids Or anyone else. It's just the plain truth. #13. I have no problem purchasing from YT venders/memebers. In fact I already have. I have purchsed some toys/balls, a harness dress, some other dresses from another and some tag holders form another. ...and for your information , i looked at the venders sites, which some links don't open/work. I didn't see these beds for sale on anyone's site. #14. This thread was never posted with the intent that it would go this direction. It was a nice , polite thread, at least it started that way. |
oh ..and I did not pay $11 for a pattern. I payed $7 for one and that was including shipping. So $26 and $7. That puts me at $33 so far. Since you seem to be keeping track. Just thought I'd let you know. |
Just use your handy dandy ignore button:) You do not have to explain yourself to anyone! I have many times and will continue to post links to help others, for whatever item anyone is looking for if I so choose! No one will dictate where I spend MY money!:) |
