Tessie is Princess Contessa, just liked the name, but realized her mother was Contessia, Hobbes and Calvin after Calvin and Hobbes comic strip (my sons idea) and Miss Sassy Baby, Sassy because I liked the name and Baby was her breeder nickname, and she is a wild little girl and a brat. |
We started out with about 25 girl names to pick from. I had a week before we were to pick her up,so each night I sat around with my daughters, read each name and its meaning. We whittled it down to 3 names, pulled the picture up that the breeder sent to me and there you have it ,,,,, Mina (strong willed warrior). It fits her! When she is told NO she will grumble, she grumbles alot if you tell her no because she has been barking. |
Levi came with his name and I kept it because I love it, it fits him, and he responds well to it. :) |

Taycie's name is from a child's book series I read when I was younger. My grandma read them when she was a little girl and so did my mom and her sisters. I loved the books and I remember reading them over and over. But I especially loved the little girl named Tacy in it. So, when I knew I was getting a puppy, Taycie she was! I changed the spelling a little for my own personal preference but I love it. The Betsy-Tacy Society | Betsy-Tacy Society |
Lucky Jenks who goes by just Jenks. I don't know what his name was before we got him my gram tried Lucky but he didn't respond at all and I like Jenks from Kim Harrison and her Rachel Morgan series. I thought it fit. Jenks is a Pixy in the books and he is small but resourceful, strong and smart and is always watching out for or comforting the main character Rachel. I guess he either liked it or me because he started responding to it within a few days of bringing him home. |
I had narrowed a list that I had meticulously chosen to about 3 names or so, and my husband thought Nilla was his favorite, so I went with that. ^^ I like it because for one thing Nilla = vanilla and she is mostly white, Nilla has brown on one eye and it kind of looks like a Nilla Wafer, and it also sounds close to Nala, and The Lion King was my all time favorite Disney movie, even childhood movie. It just worked. |
What a great thread. I named Razzle as Sir Razzle Dazzle. I loved the name Razzle, and as I wanted an agility dog, Razzle seemed to fit. It fit even better when I saw him and his personality. He literally sparkles (at least in my eyes). The Sir part he is growing into, as hopefully he becomes a mature kindly man dog. Magic our oldest BRT, was named on our third visit to the breeder, up till then we were discussing and discussing names. Our third visit was to pick up our puppy, on the 3 hour drive, my hubby said what about Magic? I loved the association with Black and Magic, and I've always been in love with , and believe in magic, both large and small magics, too me Magic is mystical, heart moving, special and unique. He is all of that and then some. Zoey is the name of our female BRT and was again my hubby's choice. I am not satisfied with that name as I don't feel an affinity towards that name, or see how she exhibits a Zoey personae. |
It took me a week or so before I chose the name Kai. I wanted a name that was smaller then he was :D |
My father chose Max's name after studying his puppy picture and deciding he needed a strong name. Originally it was going to Maximus for the character in "Gladiator," but after hearing an Italian neighbor call him "Maximo," we went with that. I chose Teddy's name because he has a real zest for life and loves the outdoors just like Teddy Roosevelt. He is cuddly like a teddy bear and feisty at the same time. I can see him saying "Bully!" just like TR. |
On the way home from the breeder's house the day we first visited and confirmed our choice of puppies (previously seen on her web site), I turned to my husband and said 'she looks like a Grace' and that was my grandma's name. He agreed and said his grandma's name was Grace too. We've been married 33 yrs and we didn't know our grandmas had the same name (they both died way before we met each other). We decided Gracie fit better, but her real name is Lady Grace and she's a sweet, submissive girl so it's a good fit. |
Scooter: The grand daughters named him this because when he was real little he would scoot around on the carpet and I started calling him bug so his name is Scooter Bug Sadie Mae: I named her Sadie because I love that name and the Mae is after my Mothers middle name. Thor: He was the biggest puppy born and the strongest so the kids came up with the name Thor and it fits him. Skatie ( aka Little Bit ) The kids thought it would be cute to name him Skatie after Scooter and Sadie, I call him Little Bit |
I have shared this before but, this time I will share my 5 rainbow bridge babies. , they are Willbe: because he is my little baby and always will be. Thunder: because she was born during a summer thunder storm. Lady Abby: was a rescue and we wanted her to just be a lady of leisure, not a puppy machine. Noah : because it means peace and he was so calm and quite for a Yorkie Zack: Was my husbands dog, named for a childs song. Zackaus was a wee little man who climbed a tree, for Jesus to see. Jesus said come to me (Repeat) |
When I was a kid I took naming my dolls and stuffed animals very seriously so when I got Callie it was the same way. We were together an hour in the car and another two hours on the floor at my house and finally Callie came to my mind and that was it :D |
We have chosen 'Scarlett' for our little soon to be Yorkie girl that we will bring into our home. My all time favorite movie is 'Gone With The Wind' and that is where the name came from. Our master bedroom is decorated in GWTW, so it was an easy decision. I first thought of naming a girl 'Emmy' but my name is 'Aymee' and I was afraid they were too close together and that when someone said my name the dog would think they were saying Emmy. I'd love for my hubby to name his dog (a beagle) one day that he has planned Rhett, but he said no. LOL. |
