So Harley just peed on the chair in his room, and had a massive pee on the floor, about 1 foot away from his tray... I'm worried this may be related to all of his stomach problems.

He's 2 years old, and pretty reliable with his indoor toilet, he's been having stomach and vomiting issues for a while now, he was put on a bland diet 2 days ago cause of vomiting. I was going to restart kibble tonight and over the next 5 days... (there was a bacterial infection about 3 weeks ago, and now we're having kibble issues which are possibly an allergy problem). some of my other posts are floating around with more detailed info.

Should I be concerned about this? Or is it maybe just a weird fluke? I washed his floors to eliminate all scent, and just put a fresh puppy pad down instead of his grid, so I can see all pees.

These two pees were pretty clear about an hour apart, they weren't yellow at all, but they smelled like urine. He is on rice and hamburger and I make hte rice really mushy, plus he's drinking bottled water (we also suspected an issue with the water).

Ugh I'm so confused any thoughts and advice are greatly appreciated. Should I go ahead with the kibble (like 10 kibbles for today with the rice and hamburger).

Can't answer you on the food, I'd ask my vet for specific instructions, but yes yes and yes, they will have accidents and setbacks when they are sick or stressed. Also, you say you washed the floor, but I just want to remind you that unless you use a specific product that eliminates the protein it's hard to get rid of all of it on soft surfaces; so be sure and use a specific product with enzymes. Here’s hoping Harley starts to feel better soon. Also a warning about the food, every time you make a food switch it's hard on the digestive systems. So go slow and easy. If he continues to have accidents, I'd want to see if he has a bladder infection, but it's not as likely in male dogs. Also, since he had a bacterial infection, you might want to give him some probiotics, especially if he's had antibiotics. they will introduce good bacteria to his intestinal tract. Some people recommend giving probiotics with every food change.

I used a kennel wipe to get rid of the pee & smell (the package says it's supposed to remove odour so accidents don't reoccur), then I used a low dilution of mr.clean and water... it's what I always use, I also assure it's completely dry before he goes back in the room so that there is no risk of him licking the floor, chemicals etc.

He was given a supplement with the original course of antibiotics to assure the good bacteria was re-established.

They were slightly concerned that he may have some form of urinary infection at emerge (3 weeks ago), but if he had a problem with that wouldn't his pee be darker, not lighter? They told me to watch him, this is the only abormality with pee since the original incident.

There are just so many variables, that now I'm starting to lose track of it all, my poor dog. The vet instructed me about 30 hours ago to watch him, that he didn't need to come in unless he was vomiting, or if we have trouble on the kibble again. I'm thinking I may try the food tonight slowly, this time I'm going to keep the hamburger and rice for a longer period of time while introducing the kibble, I think I did a 4 day switch last time from the bland to the kibble, so I'll do longer...

I'm rather frazzeled so I hope this all makes sense, I'm also on pain meds myself just had jaw surgery. :S

oh and I think my reasoning for the 4 day switch last time was he was on chicken and rice (not hamburger) and we suspected a chicken allergy, so I wanted him off the chicken... the itching and scratching has gone down ALOT since then.. so at least I don't need to worry about scratching with the beef, I can keep that on longer.

I would ask the vet about a urinalysis just to be sure, especially since they suspected a UTI the last time he was seen. Urine does not necessarily have to be dark for there to be an infection present.

Ok good to know, cause at emerg, they said he was like a .5 out of a possible 4, on some sort of test. 0 being perfect.... So they said the antibiotics of the rest of the bacterial infection may have killed that off too. My real vet hasn't seen him since this whole incident. They did however receive the report from emerg. I'll keep any eye on him, I've been recording all vomits, bowel movements, and feedings, I'll start recording pee times too, to see if there are any irregularities.

Also another question, if I'm feeding hamburger and rice, is it ok to feed him medium or lean instead of extra lean. I sent my boyfriend the other day to buy his hamburger and told him to buy the best quality he could cause I didn't have time to think or risk it (that was surgery day for me), but I'm working on a student budget, I have no problem keeping him on a bland diet and cooking for him but can't really afford to buy him better quality hamburger than i eat for myself (especially when I have 3 packages of medium already in my freezer).

I'm probably over analyzing things, but I want him better like yesterday... so now I'm evaluating everything with a fine tooth comb.

I don't think there is any coloration change that you can see with a bladder infection. Maybe with a kidney infection, but pee color has more to do with how much water they are drinking. Usually with an infection they will have to go more frequently. Sorry you are going through so much at one time.

Your pup should have a urinalsis no later than tomorrow. They were already concerned about a UTI before this happened and this is a common presentation. Infections that are let go are very uncomfortable and unsafe.

Medium fat hamburger is not okay for Yorkies unless a board certified veterinary nutritionist said to do this. Very lean hamburger is the best choice. Too fatty and you risk pancreatitis.

What are the signs of a UTI? Just so I can also watch for other signs over night.

I'm not familiar with bladder infections, so I think you might want to follow the advice of the more experienced here for that. However; I do have a pancreatic dog...and I know a little about nutrition. If you are cooking the hamburger for your dog, then you can use the medium fat that you have handy, but you need to remove as much fat as possible from it while cooking it. Cook it on low and drain, drain, drain....I've even boiled it, then placed it in the fridge for the fat to harden and float to make it even easier to remove. (Just like you would if you were making a beef stew)

Thanks, this is helpful, I boil it, so do I start to boil, then drain and put more water in it to boil some more of the fat out? I've got a bit of the extra lean left, but will likely run out before I'm completely done the kibble switch.

When my Toy Fox had a bladder infection, the only symptoms I noticed were the massive pees in weird places like the couch. So I think a UTI is a definite possibility there.

Thank-you, this is helpful. I have been freaking out, wondering if I am panic for nothing or over analyzing or if he's actually in real danger that I may be over looking. how many of these random pees did you notice? I do also want to keep into consideration how much fluids he's had in his system.
He's only had one pee since this incident, which I'm assuming is a good thing at this point, seeing it was on his pad.

how quickly do these things develop? I'm going to try and get him in tomorrow to the vet, but I honestly don't know if I can, I am on drugs which impair my driving for my jaw, can he wait until Monday (they're not open on weekends)? I'm not saying this because I'm slacking I'm just trying to figure out how I'm going to manage this... I may be able to have my boyfriend take him, I just don't know if I will be able to accompany him. If I have to send him with the bf what instructions should I send with him? Is blood work necessary too?

You should probably have a urinalysis done before Monday. If there have been other medical problems and a suspected UTI a couple of weeks ago, I think I would have my bf take him in. They will need some urine from your boy to test.

It is ultimately your dog and your decision. We can only give you opinions of what we would do if it were our dog.
