How do I collect the urine? Like do I just bring in his pee pad? I know when they tested his urine in ottawa, they had him on a catheter and took a sample that way. Do I do blood work at the same time, I guess if I'm going to pay the visit fee do I get that testing done too, I wouldn't want the urine test to come back negative and then have to pay the visit fee in order to do bloodwork?

Thank - you everyone for your advice, it's stressing me out I've called the vet so many times these last two weeks, they are probably getting sick of me...

You need a urine sample to check for a UTI. Bloodwork might show an elevated white count if there was an infection, but urinalysis is how to diagnose a UTI. You would need to catch the urine in a cup of some kind and take it in immediately if you want to collect it at home. Otherwise, I would take him in to the vet when he has not peed in a while so that he will have some urine in him when he gets there, and they can get the sample for you.

I'm sure the vet's office is not upset at speaking to you so much over the past two weeks. Sometimes it takes a while to get problems figured out and under control. I'm sure they are glad to see someone who takes good care of their pet and is concerned.

What I would do is boil it, drain it and then rinse it (forgot this step earlier) in a colander with some warm water...then pat dry. Should take the majority of the fat off the burger and it should be OK for him to eat.

Well turns out... he was marking :eek: everything is all clear medical wise, no medical problems other than the allergies, and the possible issue with my apartment's water.... still working on those, sending in a water test this week (we're on bottle water)

I video taped him doing something weird, which I was panicing about... he was rubbing around the chair that he peed on thursday, and then doing this kicky scratchy thing... I thought he may be in pain... but turns out he's discovered that he can mark things :eek: This kick and scratch is his way of saying "whoot I can kick up a fuss when I pee now:D".

Looking back the second pee was also near the chair... So we're going back to some crate training this week:rolleyes:
I think I'm over analyzing things cause I'm a worry wart... instead of it being a sign he was sick it was a sign he is getting better, and more mischievous .... :rolleyes:

Thanks for all the great advice, I shall keep it in mind in case I see symptoms again... I'm going to go tell the yorkie mom with "big toe" post that she's not alone...

Also thank-you for the hamburger tip, because of this I can now afford to keep the hamburger going for a little longer I'm going to keep giving him some for the next week or two with the kibble to help pack on some pounds.. yesterday I boiled, patted, drained, and boiled and patted again for good measure... I got a ton of fat off of it, and he munched his home cooked meal up and all of his kibble!
