| I got up this morning and my mother's dog Taffy was coughing and it sounded horrable, she even coughed up a tiny spot of blood because she was coughing so hard. Poor lil thing is 10yrs old. So to the vet we went! Xrays are very good, blood work is very good. He called it Kennel Cough, however ALL of the dogs (6) are UTD on all shots including KC,NOONE has been out of the house except to the backyard sense the beginning of Aug. He said to keep her away from the others,so she is in a different area of the house and we go check on her ever hour. She is dwnstairs barking because she is wanting to be with the pack and Mina is whining or barking because she misses her sister. Taffy is even going out pottie separate from everyone else. The only thing that I can come up with is a sick animal roaming through my fence in yard in the area tha Taffy prefers for a potty. Its her personal spot. I never did make my kids go to a separate area when they were sick,I wanted to be able to see them. Nobody is likeing this. It has not been a very good Monday! | That is sad. I'm sure she is very lonely without her buddies. I found this, since you asked how she could have caught it. There is quite a bit of info there, so you can read it all at the link. How Did My Dog Catch Kennel Cough? Dogs can catch kennel cough in several ways. It can spread through aerosols in the air, directly from dog to dog, or through germs on contaminated objects. Kennel cough is often spread in enclosed areas with poor air circulation—while boarding in a kennel or an animal shelter, for example, or through direct contact while sitting in a vaccination clinic, training class or dog-grooming facility. Kennel cough is so contagious that your pet might even catch it from sharing a water dish at the dog park or by simply greeting another dog. Most kennels will not board your pet without proof of a recent vaccination against parainfluenza and bordetella, two of the main causes of kennel cough. ASPCA | Kennel Cough

| Thank you for the info. That is the big question,,how. She has only been in our fenced in backyard,no`other dog has been off of our property,no dog has been in my backyard except mine,no dog has been to the vet or a kennel,I dont use a groomer. No other dog here is ill as of yet. So just HOW does a dog get ill with a KC virus if there hasnt been any kind of exposure. No human or dog has even been in the petstore in more than a week. | As insane as it may sound I may of figured out how Taffy got KC. I know that this can happen with some immunization shots and people kids. Our chi Amigo got his KC shot on Friday. He obviously didn't feel well Saturday. They sleep literally on top of each other at night. He may of been running a bit of fever and I just didnt realize it. Taffy was due for her KC shot in two weeks. A freak, timing thing I know, but it is the only possiblility that I can come up with. It is the only contact that KC has had at my house. My big worry is the 15yr old man 2-bits. He doesn't get shots of any kind anymore. So Taffy is still in quarentine dwnstairs and I am holding my breath on 2-bits until Fridayish. |

| I am so sorry. Its hard going through anything like that. Then, having an older one is scary. I hope no one else catches it. Dudley has had toncillitus twice this summer. Two months apart and we don't know what is causing it. Its like everytime he eats kibble or anything hard he gets this stuff. Like his little throat just want take anything thats hard and rough to it. I'll pray for yours and you pray for mine. I'm tired giving antibotics. |

Poor Taffy will have to be dwnstairs for 2 or 3 more days and it is taking a tole on her emotions. She didn't live in a very stable atmosphere before we got her and we have worked hard to help her fit in. Im hoping that we arent starting over or ending up with a barky anxious doggie. This really is no fun. | |
