After all the attention on dog theft increasing by almost 50% in the last year, it would worry me. Hopefully completely innocent but be careful just in case.

Um this happened to me right near central park and the situation was very similar. I had just finished taking Teddy for his walk and we were walking back to our building and this women kept snapping photos of him and kept moving closer and closer. He was getting a little freaked out and so was I. I gave her a very angry look and picked Teddy up. Once I picked him up, she said to me "do you mind if I take a picture of your dog". I said, "yes, I do mind and you have already taken several so I think you have enough".

I heard that some people out there do this to help them scam. They take pictures of a dog. Post it on a craigslist type website and try and sell the dog and pass it off as their own. Meanwhile they in fact have no dog to sell and scam the person who is trying to purchase the pup from them.

I'm starting to feel a bit paranoid about this happening so often now. :(

It so sad that we have become so paranoid about scammers that we aren't willing to allow people to photograph our dogs. I mean it would be easier enough for a scammer to get pictures off the web; they really don't have to resort to walking around trying to find a cute dog. I hope some of you take this as what it’s most likely is, a compliment that you have a cute dog.

Usually when people photo your dog because they think it is cute, they are smiling while they are doing it, asking first usually if they can, don't take a bunch of pictures, move on when done and say something to you about your dog or at least make some friendly gesture with the hand or face. Don't people from all countries know to do this as dog lovers we appreciate a fine dog and want to share our love and appreciation of them with each other. This just sounded rather creepy to me in the way the person went about it and not at all like the usual friendly dog lover appreciating a wonderful dog.

The only people that have taken pics of my dogs is at a fair where they are REALLY dressed up for the occasion and they always ask. There is one word that the person would of understood "NO",it is pretty universal.
So not ok to take pics of me,my kids or my dogs without asking.

Last Halloween when Callie was an elephant I had someone come up and ask if they could take a picture and then at a dog expo when Sammy and Callie where dress a like but in one in the girl version and the other in the boy version someone asked to take a picture. In your case it sounds weird and honestly I think I would have picked Callie up and held her kinda blocking her from the camera I would also keep a very good eye on her.

I wouldn't mind people taking pics of Teddy, but yes, I do prefer it when they ask first.

I had people ask first if they could take pictures. On the same note, I like taking pictures and have taken done the same with my phone camera...after asking first.

Yorkie Poparazzi! Doggie Magazine will have your little one on the front cover. :D Maybe check the web for photos of people using your picture for random stuff. (ie. dog for sale). I don't know just a thought with all the scams.

I didn't realize that so many people take pictures of other peoples dogs. The general consensus seems to be that asking first is preferred. I honestly wouldn't have minded if this guy had asked first (or made a gesture of some sort asking permission) ~ but he didn't and he took picture after picture from different angles and it made me think he was doing it to steal a dog 'to order'. Norman doesn't go out alone but we will be paying extra attention when we are out and about...

My front doorman has taken several photos of Riley after we come back in from our walk... that isn't too strange, I guess.... but it was a little awkward.

And a couple of months ago I walked past a couple who had just gotten married.... they were taking photos and about to get into a limo... when they spotted Riley. The girl was going nuts and they were taking photos of him. LOL!!!! I didn't really think anything of it.

I would be watching him closely maybe Ive watched to much CSI or SUV or something but a dog-napping is the first thing that comes to my mind!

I have never had random people take pictures, but just the other day a woman asked if she could take a picture of my two so she could send it to her daughter. She told me her daughter loves yorkies and that she would love to get a picture of mine. I told her it was fine and then we went on our way.

I would be a bit creeped out by a stranger just taking pictures without asking...

I would be worried that he was going to use the pictures to scam someone... You know those scams in the paper that say they are being deployed and need to rehome their dog, please send $500 western union to so and so. I am a very cautious person by nature though, and he may have just thought she was cute!
