Why Pay When You Can Steal One?
 

Had an interesting conversation (actually unnerving) today in a store and thought I'd share. Husband and I were in a clothing store w Gidget in her bag. We were at the counter paying the bill, when the clerk asked if she could see our pup in the bag. We showed her Gidget. She started talking about how her daughter wants a yorkie but she doesn't know if she should get one. We told her a little about the breed. She said she thinks she will wait a while.

Then she told us about another customer who brought in a maltese. She asked her how much she paid and where she got her. The woman told her she paid $4000 at a local pet store. She asked us if we paid that. We told her to buy from a breeder if she eventually buys and avoid ped stores. She said why pay the $ for these little dogs when she can just steal one off the street and noone would ever know it wasn't hers. :eek: Husband and I just about fell over!!!

We were speechless! We said we wouldn't really recommend that and hurried up and got out of there. No wonder the # of dognappings has gone up 50% if this is ppl's attitudes! She didn't seem phased at all or embarrased that she had just said that - unbelievable!

LMAO- she should take a page out of OJ's book..."if I were to steal your dog, this is how I would have done it"

How awful. We have to be so careful with our babies now a days.

This is the attitude of those who are taking our babies! No morals or feelings - just take what you want.

OMG ! I am appalled, even if it was a joke it was not funny. I really think the law should have much more serious penalty for pet napping. Pets are not simply property !
Wow maybe I am overreacting but, I feel physicaly sick thinking about this.

I wonder how she would have felt if you would have "just stolen" what you purchased. She'd be pretty ticked if you said "why should pay all this money when I can just take it"....What an idiot!

People can be so disgusting. Makes you want to hold onto your dogs a lot closer. With attitudes like that.

Sad but true....you can find plenty pure bred dogs at pounds & shelters. I was at the shelter making a donation the other day and someone came in with an 18 mo. old reg. Maltese. Said she couldn't keep it where she lived. I wondered why she got it to begin with.

I really wish someone would try to take my baby from me, I'd just have to get use to doing jail time thats all...lol...My Gizmo is never out of my sight in the home or away from home. He is at my heels when ever I move about the house and when we are out, he is in his carrier, so unless they plan on cutting my arm off I guess me and gizzy should be fine.:teethysmi

Since this was the clerk who said it, I would seriously consider dropping the boss a note. If she thinks it's ok to steal a dog, who knows what she might think is ok to take from her work place.

Good idea. You could do that anonymously as well.

I would have asked her if doing 3 to 5 for theft was part of her 10 year life plan.

People and their morality, or lack there of, don't even phase me anymore.

Not to scare you but I hope you paid with cash and not a check with your info on it ..... You should report it to the manager --- how sad that this is how she thinks she can get what she cant afford. :(

You have a point. I'm considering this. We were just floored when she said it.

I didn't think about this until you said it. Yeah, this kind of person should really not be trusted to handle a cash register or credit cards. You know it's weird, she looked like such a well-dressed, nice girl. My husband said he never would have guessed that would have come out of her mouth. Really got to the bottom of who she really was!

Wow. I hope she was kidding, but it sure doesn't sound like it. I'm amazed by what some people think is okay. I really can't believe she just blurted it out to complete strangers, as if most people think stealing is a-okay. :(

Makes you wonder what else she steals

This is only one part of what is wrong with society.
That girl really needs a wake up in the harm her way of thinking causes.

Edit: at least she's honest that's half the issue solved right there.

Unfortunately, crooks come in all shapes and sizes. Would be nice if we could spot the bad guy a mile away like in Disney movies lol.

Problem is, she would not get 3-5 for stealing a dog :mad:

The only reason the fellow who tried to steal my Cali is back in prison is because the officers who caught him said they thought he was trying to steal the car. They told me they said that because the penalty for steal a dog is next to nothing.
