Humping is considered a sign of dominance not so much a sexual act. Humping as a puppy is not a bad thing, in fact, it helps the testicles to drop. There are several people who go nuts if their dog humps, but unless your dog is doing it excessively, I don't think it's a problem. Humping should never be allowed on a human being, your dog is trying to be dominant of you if this happens, and this behavior should not be tolerated. Joey humped his little stuffed bear until about a month after he was neutered. It was really cute, and no, I never corrected him. They say if you correct them, they just learn to do it when you're not around. You're right though, I don't think it would be cute on a large dog, but it is so funny on a yorkie.
