When I had just one yorkie, I took her everywhere with me. She stayed quietly in her carrier and usually never made a peep. I don't understand why people get so bent out of shape over taking a yorkie along to different places. Humans are in touching the food and coughing on it...the yorkies are in their carriers not coming in contact with anything. I don't feel I was wrong in taking mine with me and even sneaking her in. For those of you who think it's so wrong, leave your yorkies home. For those that want their yorkies with them, I say go for it. |

And this is why dog owners get a bad rap. |

My vet gave me a warning a long time ago about pet smart & pet stores. I keep mine in my carrier if I take one in there. I have taken mine into different places and have not had a problem. Only one at a time, in a purse carrier. I've even taken my tiny into Barnes and Noble coffee shop to have coffee with friends but never took her out of the bag, so there was no problem. I'm sure management wouldn't have gone for it, but we stayed on the far end away from the general food area, and she never made a peep. When I go into Big Lots, a couple gals that work there will come over to say hi and see what she's wearing. They do sell food there, but no one has ever said anything to me. Again in a carrier bag. I used to go into a grocery store and leave my dog in the car. That was a few years ago and now I just don't feel comfortable doing that with the theft now days. Sad because now they just don't get to go like they used to. And they DO love going for a ride, even though it was a short jaunt to the store. Too bad that it isn't safe anymore. |
I, too, feel sorry for the OP. Her post seemed very friendly and conversational, she obviously has a new puppy, and is a new poster on YT. We all learn by doing, and she was quick to acknowledge that she wouldn't take her puppy anywhere there was food...even before she was "admonished" for that very thing. Her "sneaky" comment seemed innocent and playful to me; and I agree, a bit "tongue in cheek". What seems the most immature and selfish to me is for any of us here on YT to attack, belittle or condescend to anyone, much less a brand new person. We all have opinions and, in my opinion, they can be stated without being unkind. We have a lot we can teach each other...on every level. I surely hope that YT doesn't get the reputation for this type of response and thread. For what it's worth, they make me feel discouraged and bring me down, and I know I'm not alone. I'm sorry, OP. I hope you enjoy YT for a long time to come. |

Mina goes everywhere she can with us and we eat alot of drive through on our road trips because she is not staying in the car. She loves to go! and she loves to be with us. She crys when I leave and continues to cry,I know this because my kids have told me. Spoiled ,,, ya you better believe it and I like it that way. Enjoy your baby and dont let anyone tell you otherwise. You will find places that you can and can not take your baby. Some people will think that your baby is adorable and not care if you are there and some people will not like you there just because your baby is "A DOG!". Try to use a little common sense about where to take baby and try to be civilized to people that are just being an ASSPRIN about it. That is my opinion and 2 cents worth. Now I will just unsubscribe to this thread too. So I dont have to watch people step up on their personal soapboxes. |
I love shopping with y'all. It's always an adventure! So, where to next? :D |
Wow it's like beating a dead horse.. No worries OP I take Gizmo alot of places as well because we're both in a similar situation. My husband and I work alot during the week and when we go out, we accomodate our nights to include Gizmo. We've only been asked to leave at one store, and I did so graciously without feelings hurt. I don't think you're being immature, I think you're someone who is a new YT owner and wants to be with their baby alot, which I can completely understand. The week we got Gizmo, I was always trying to get home early to be with him and work on training and socialization. I, personally, would like to see a photo of this cute pup's little furry head sticking out of a carrier. |

You are lucky that Pierre likes to go in one of those purses!! Peanut will not go in one, he does the "Garfield" thing when I try to put him in there! I have took Pnut places where he wasnt allowed. I have been caught once, and was kicked out. I dont find it a big deal as most people are making it. Pnut has been a lot of places! He has been to, Walmart, Target, Big Lots, CVS, Walgreens, Home Depot, Lowe, Hooters... Uhh and a strip club that his Daddy took him to when he was about 5 months old! ( I was at work by the way, I did not know this was taking place!) Have fun with your little guy, and I agree I would love to see a pic of him, he sounds really cute!! |
I think we should consider being more welcoming as a community instead of personally attacking the character of the OP based on what may have been just a poor choice of words. Everyone has personal opinions (I have my own on this particular topic) but points can be made without verbal attacks. Anyways, congratulations on your little Pierre :animal36 |
I identify with the OP. I bring Tatiana with me everywhere, too. When I was unreasonably kicked out of an OUTDOOR event (there was no food sold or served), I was deeply upset. Tatiana was in pet-a-roo carrier (it's like a backpack, but it's in the FRONT of my body. Tatiana could stick out her head, if she liked). Well, that's never happened again. Since then, I received a doctor's note designating Tatiana to be my emotional support/service animal. She can accompany me to all places. I always have her in a purse-pet-carrier. Incidentally, Tatiana is tiny. She's about 3-lbs, and her carrier is size extra small. She's always been quiet, well-behaved, and in my complete control. |

This is completely unnecessary to use this tone with anyone, especially someone who just joined YT! Sneakiness might not be totally right, but I think rudeness is much worse!:thumbdown |

In regards in taking your dog everywhere with you I think it is ok as long as the store is pet friendly. If it is not then I rather not go there with my dog and avoid any hassels. |
Sneaking a dog in a store where there not allowed is about more than breaking the rules, its about having a complete disrequard of everyone in the store and management of the store. If a dog were found in there from the health board they would be fined not to mention if someone with allergies were in there how it would affect them, They have just as m uch right to shop in peace as the person who snuck the dog in, There is no reason why the dog cant be left at home |
Honestly why should someone have to kick you out of a store we are all adults here and know right from wrong right? |

A while back there was a few threads about how rude some members are. The definition of "rude" was posted and a few "rude" comments were made. It died down, it won't change.. people are what and who they are. It takes effort to change. I will even say I may have been viewed as rude at times... and I really don't think I was. So.... we each have to ask ourselves how we want to be viewed or remembered. If someone is rude or blunt to you.. just past it over!! Maybe they are having a bad day or they are very passionate about the subject or they totally misunderstood you. What battles are worth fighting? I am speaking to myself here too. And... the subject of taking a dog in the store is just not worth loosing friends over:) Now.. lets talk re-homing... lol just kidding! |

Hah!! Rehoming, dogs in stores, and what classifies a dog food as good. Are the religion, politics, and marital status conversations of the Yt world. |
Just because some of us don't take our dogs everywhere doesn't mean we don't want them with us. I'd love to be able to take my dogs to college classes with me. What's the difference between that and a store? But it doesn't work that way in most places. To me, the bottom line is that if you aren't sure that they are allowed, just ask first. Out of respect for business owners and other shoppers, I do not take my dog with me. I'm sure she would make shopping and banking much more fun, but if the owner doesn't want them there, then I don't see how it is fair for me to ignore that and do it anyway. If you "need" your dog with you for whatever reason, that is between you and your physician/ophtha/psychiatrist, etc. That is completely different than taking them just because. Ellie loves to go on errands with us. Doesn't mean she has to get her way. And JMHO, not training a dog to be alone sometimes can very negatively affect the dog later. They need to learn how to be independent. IMO, if you think you have to conceal them in a carrier so the manager won't notice, then that is a good clue as to if they should go in or not. |
I just don't get it. When ever any topic is controversial, there's always someone who cries "don't be rude". If everyone had the same opinion about everything, there wouldn't be any reason to have a place like YT. No one can "read" tone. We interpret the written word through our own filters. What one person says is rude, someone else will view as blunt and another person will view as common sense and dead on. So before you start wagging your finger at someone and calling them rude, please remember that by saying that, someone else may consider you to be just as rude. Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming. |

I also think there was a lot of "finger-wagging" towards the OP taking her pup into a store. With all the upsetting scenerios we see here on YT: ppl breeding 2 lb dogs w/o vet assistance, animal abuse, ppl w abhorable breeding practices, pups not receiving proper medical care, etc., I really think dogs in stores in carriers is "not worth losing friends over" (Lil Sis). Personally, I don't take mine anywhere she is not allowed, but if someone does, it really is not the worst thing I have ever witnessed with my eyes (wish it was). |
Dallas is pretty pet friendly, you can take your dog to a lot of places :) |

I fully agree that there are lots of things to be upset about here on YT, but that doesn't mean that people should ONLY be upset about the worst of the worst. How people behave with their dogs in public ends up affecting all dog owners for better or worse. |
